  • Losing More

Okay, I'm a healthy weight and have been for 6 years now. I'm 5'3, large framed (I just discovered this a couple of days ago-- I always thought I was medium- framed!), and waver between 132-6 pounds. For those who know my bio, I never went through the rungs properly, partly because when I began to add in carbs, my weight loss became inperceptible. So though I've been on Atkins for 4 years, I'm still a newbie in a sense.

Currently I'm on the berries rung and having lots of trouble hitting 35 grams. Actually, I never have! (I posted on a thread in the main forum about this.) I'm female, active, but would really like to hit 125 pounds.

Long story short, it seems that I can lose at only 20 grams of carbs or less, even though according to what I lost during Induction (5 pounds) puts me at average metabolic resistance. Given this, and given that I enjoy the the freedom of OWL, how possible is it for me to lose another 6-10 pounds?

It just seems that once I moved to OWL, losses waved goodbye!

    Re: Losing More

You sound like me when I was your age... it's even harder now that my daughter is your age...but... it can be done.

I couldn't lose on any diet at all for some reason and then I hit Atkins with all my might.

First, I had to cut back the carbs, for me it is about 10 to 15 without exercising, then I cut my total intake of cal to 1200 where my hair would fall out only little and I could almost meet most nutritional standards, then I added exercise, 500 cal worth each and every day. That's about 2 hours walking at 3.5 mph. Not too strenuous. If you add more vigorous exercise you don't need to do it so long, but I didn't want to be sore or get blisters at this time.

If you try cutting back your carbs, your calories, and add exercise... there is no possible way you won't lose weight. But... you must be careful that there are no hidden carbs or calorie in your intake. If you progress like this you can go to any weight you want... just check out the body builders, some do take steroids but these days there is very strict testing for competition, and steroids only work if you do the same three things anyways.

      Re: Losing More

Your BMI is in the "healthy" range at your current weight. Have you gotten your body fat analyzed? If you are active, the scale weight might just be due to muscle rather than fat. A %body fat reading will give you an idea if that is the case. Also, check how your clothing size is doing.

          Re: Losing More

This blows! I put on 3 pounds in a week with no change in eating habits. And it's not a fluke, either, because my feet hurt and none of my pants fit.

I am considering this OWL experiment over, with 30 my CCLL.

            Re: Losing More

If you do have a low CCLL it doesnt necessarily mean forgetting about moving through the OWL rungs.

Some peole follow OWL thinking of it more as a 'net' than a 'ladder' thus trying the different foods' effects on their body but sticking to the lower carb count of maybe 30 carbs. Thus they can drop the dairy foods they added in rung 2 and subsitute the 5 net carbs with 5 net carbs of nuts or seeds. If all is well they can try dropping the nuts and having some berries and so on till they have tested all the different rung foods.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Elizellen, thank you. It's funny because I actually wrote you a PM on the other board and then deleted it, thinking that you'd be like, "Who is this girl and why is she contacting me?"

I'm back to Induction levels to get the mysterious gain off, but after that I'll follow your advice. I've found that I don't have trouble with most foods. The one rung I haven't touched is starchy vegetables, so that will be new for me once I get back to my norm.

              Thank you again.

Do you monitor exactly what you eat on Fitday? If so, what are your percentages and calories?

                  Re: Losing More

I do. It actually varies. I went back to induction last week because I'd gained 3 mystery pounds. My calories were very low. I gained 3 pounds this week on a 1,300- calorie a day Induction, go figure.

I don't know what to do, but I'm playing with lower calories, fat, and carbs...
