  • Going Up and Dropping Down! YooHoo!

I am now on rung 3 and getting 35 net carbs and it seems that each time I go up another rung, the weight seems to come off even faster! Last week I lost over 5 lbs and over the past three weeks I have lost just under 13 lbs. This was what I wrote last month after being on OWL for a just a few weeks. I just went back and reread this and now I'm laughing.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am here as well and going strong. I am on OWL for third week and still on rung one. Still having a little trouble on OWL figuring things out though. Last week I actually had fluctuations on net carbs from 24 to 30 and averaged about 27. Way to high for rung 1. I also noticed that my fat/protein/carb % were all over the place, as well as my calorie intake. I averaged about 2000 calories, but had a low one day of 1700 and a high one day of 2600. Also my weight has not gone down much in the past 2 weeks. After losing 3 lbs per week each week, I hit the wall and only lost 1.6 lbs week before last and .8 lbs last week. I know that part of this was the switch over to OWL and that it will start back up again soon, so hanging in there.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

OWL is great. I still have a lot to learn and I will have lots of questions, but this is when I get to figure things out. Only regret I have, is I should have done this long before now. Hey, but I'm here now, I'm determined to succeed, and that is what is important!

    THANKS!!!
    Don

Thank you so much for sharing your great news!

This is exactly what I love to hear. Please continue to post in this forum with your progress; I am very interested. I moved up to Rung 2 this week, and am excited to be doing it "right" this time.

I only weigh once a week, and have been wondering if that is often enough when progressing through the rungs. I go back and forth on the issue. Weighing once a week has definitely served me well so far, so the most I would increase it is to twice a week. I'm still pondering...

Thanks again for letting us know... I look forward to hearing more.

Woo Hoo, it's called Ongoing Weight loss for a reason! Congrats to you for bumping up the rungs appropriately and losing that weight!

          Don,

That's awesome. I needed to hear that. I tried going up the OWL rungs, but for some reason they are harder for me. I keep misstepping on OWL when I don't have that problem on Induction. Your post gives me hope that I can figure it out without losing my way!

          Congrats!

Thanks Y'all! You are a great encouragement!

Mitzi, I don't know what is right as far as weighing. I try to weigh once per week and at the same time. I have to admit though, I do sneak a peek every now and again, especially on those days that I feel thinner!

                Good for You!

I always thought that Dr. Atkins did a great disservice to his diet when he wrote that your loss slows down during OWL.

Don, thank you for your response. I am going to continue to weigh only on Sunday mornings. Maybe if I have introduced a new food and immediately feel trouble I will check it out, but otherwise I am going to stay with what's been working. It's good to know that you don't weigh often, either. I got on the scale everyday my first time around on Atkins, and I like it better this way.

Don't forget - keep us posted on your progress. I want to know everything!

Fantastic Don! You must be so (rightfully) proud!

Thanks for posting this. It cannot be trumpeted too often how one still loses weight on OWL... and often more/faster. It's a pity so many (myself included, way back when) are afraid to make the move.

Look forward to seeing you at goal!

Re: Going Up and Dropping Down! YooHoo!

I agree Sally. I wonder how many people are afraid to move off of Induction, figuring that they still had a lot to lose, so they were just going to stick with it longer. I know I did. If I had done this the first go around, I wouldn't have slipped back into my old ways and would have been at goal a looong looong time ago. I was nervous to do this then as well now, but I'm glad that I finally did it!!!

LISTEN UP, all you who are doing Extended Induction. Take the next step. It is probably already time to move onto OWL! Just a gentle little nudge!

I was one of the ones scared to move off of extended induction because I just kept gaining and losing the same 5 lbs for 4 weeks! But I took the leap of faith based on everyone's suggestions and it was the best thing I did! Not only am I more satisfied with my food choices, I'm losing more weight!

                          Keep up the losing everyone!

Just an update. I finished my 9th week on OWL and am ready to take the next step up to rung 4 and 40 carbs! WooHoo!

I am continuing to lose weight at a pretty good pace, losing 2.4 lbs last week and have averaged 2.2 lbs during my time on OWL. I have also dropped 3 inches in my waist over the same 9 week period and for the first time in a long, long time, am able to start shopping in something other than the big and tall department.

                              Hi, Don

Thank you for the update. Sounds like you are doing great.

I completed 14 days on Rung 2 yesterday. Had a 2 pound loss for the week, so I am happy.

I was planning on staying on Rung 2 to see if I could find my CCLL before moving on, but I can hear some walnuts I have calling my name. They sure would be good stirred into my cottage cheese, Splenda, & cocoa thing I'm loving so much lately. I think I will wait, though. I ate between 32 and 34 net carbs daily this week, and I don't know if I am willing to give up any of my veggies or dairy to get to the nuts. So, I am going to add 5 more carbs next week while on Rung 2 to see if I can handle 39-40 net carbs before moving up to nuts.

There - I guess I just made my plan.

Thanks again for the update... keep 'em coming!
