  • Acesulfame K...and liquid sweetener question...

I have found that this sweetener (ace-K) is often combined in drinks and sugar free syrups that also contain splenda. Most of the time however all you see is the Splenda logo on the bottle or can, so you can be misled to believe that it only contains Splenda as a sweetener. Watch your labels!

Since DANDR only recommends splenda (sucralose) I thought I would just send out this heads up so you can make sure that anything you buy that has the splenda logo on it ONLY contains splenda....and nothing else.

Look in the ingredients for "ace-K, acesulfame - K, Acesulfame potassium". I don't know if manufacturers combine these two sweeteners in products because Splenda costs them more and it cuts their costs, but it is a real bummer in my opinion because it cuts out things I wish I could use.... The ace-K is sickeningly sweet and leaves a bi of an aftertaste. I wish the manufacturers would just remove it from their products! Diet Hansens sodas are just one of the products I have seen the combo in. I also found it in my Torinos brand sugar free syrup.

Lastly....Does anyone know if you can get a pure liquid bottle of Splenda yet...and if so where?

    Thanks!
    Kat

OK, I found this online..It is a petition for making liquid splenda and concentrated powder form available (with no filler/dextrose = no carbs!)
If you have not done so already, maybe you can sign it so we can get this product back!

Actually, you are fine with ace-k. It is listed as OK in DANDR, along with splenda and saccharin. Here's the reference regarding artificial sweeteners on the website. http://atkins.com/helpatkins/newfaq/...Recommend.html

I think they use more than one type of sweetener because of the synergy you get from mixing artificial sweeteners making it taste better than using just one kind.

actually you can get liquid splenda from Sweetfreeze.com many folk her use it and love it.
the sweetener of choice is Splenda and the manufactures know it so they post it prominately on their packages. heck some of the new middle of the road stuff has sugar and splenda in it so be very careful out there.

Yep Ace-K is a good one too! but putting the Splenda logo on the front of the package in big letters is a ploy ALOT of companies are using! so do be observant! :yes

I just ordered this also. So am I understanding correctly that we don't have to count this?? Or is this still in our sugar allowance for the day?

All sugar alternatives are counted towards the daily limit.

LOL! I have made my share of spelling blunders too. I wasn't getting on ya about it I just wanted to clarify so if anyone else wanted to use the link or get the product so they would know how to find it. There is no longer a free offer that I could see on the site. They also are limiting how much can be ordered.

I was under the impression that the limit was placed on the sweetener (splenda) due to the bulking agents in it that contain carbs. I myself got it so I can be sure I am minimizing the carbs I get when I use it to sweeten something....

But then it is certainly important to limit sweet things on a daily basis. Otherwise you get addicted to the taste of "sweetness" all the time in your foods and drinks...and that is not good....
