  • Scared to up my carbs still......

I am adding foods back in according to the OWL ladder, but am finding that I subconsciously REFUSE to go up in carb totals I think the most I have gotten is 32 net and I'm on the legume rung. I usually average 20-27 net still. I did buy some kidney beans to add into my chili (oh heavenly day!!) but I find that I cut back elsewhere to save the carbs. I am so nervous about going up especially over 40 - I know I NEED to do it but I'm scared of it!

As long as you are losing weight, there is nothing to be afraid of. And if you do stop losing---congrats, you found your CCLL and then you will know exactly how many carbs you can have daily and still lose weight. So if you one day you want to have kidney beans, whole wheat toast and mango, you can because you know eating that amount of carb won't hurt your weight loss. When you find your CCLL, you'll notice that your food amounts will open up---less worry and less stress.

      Skinnymom, it DOES get easier.

I remember when I was struggling to eat 30g a day--it just seemed like such an indulgence, and I really had to work to get my carbs in. But slowly I realized that I was nowhere near my CCLL, as I was consistently and continually losing pounds and inches. I added 5g increments of carbs about every 2-3 weeks, rather than each week, just to make sure my body could handle it and I would still lose weight. I've made it up to 85g and I'm STILL losing--it's funny to think that I was worried my CCLL was 40. (Yes, I really thought that at one point.) It's getting much easier--in fact, today I'm having to really shuffle things so I don't go OVER 85g, but typically it feels very natural to eat this many carbs now that I've gotten used to it.

I get to enjoy veggies, fruits, dairy, and nuts on a daily basis, and I generally add in one or two starchy veggies/legumes/whole grains each day. Right now I'm taking a "break" from planning my 85g a day and just eating what feels natural, knowing I can eat up to 85g (and most likely, I estimate I could eat up to 95g) and still lose weight.
