I have 2 questions in one kind of.

First of all, I'm having issues at work with eating baaad things. I work in healthcare, and people are constantly baking all these goodies for our clients, the problem is, we're allowed to eat them too. Normally I'm GREAT about avoiding anything bad, but lately (last 2 weeks or so) I've been having a handful of chips, or 1 small piece of fudge that then leads to 2, or 1 cookie. It's bad, what do you guys do to avoid these situations? I can't get away from it, that's not really an option......any ideas? I know I shouldn't be doing it, but I do anyways......normally I'm not like that!

Secondly, on OWL how many grams of protein/fat/carbs are we supposed to be eating? I'm on the berry rung right now...and sometimes even though my protein says it's at 30%, the gram amount seems REALLY high....like 120 grams some days! Is there a margin to stay within when it comes to grams? I use fitday religiously.
    Thanks!

    Re: Issues

    Hello

About avoiding goodies... they are always going to be around at one time or another. You just need to get to the point where you can choose not to eat it. I know, easier said than done. But realistically, it's true. If you stay clean doing Atkins, it really does get easier. I have finally gotten to where I can bake cookies and such and it doesn't get to me. My cart in the grocery store has some junkie stuff for my husband alongside my healthy stuff. I have finally gotten it through my head that anything worth having has a price.

Here is one of the affirmations I was using during the "I am worth it challenge" - Nothing external to you has any power over you. It made me realize that everything that I put into my mouth is a choice. What is more important?

About percentages in OWL: In induction you were doing 65% Fat, 30% Protein, and 5% Carbs. In OWL, protein remains at 30% and fat will decrease as carbs increase. It won't be much of a difference at first, but as you increase your carbs you will see more of a difference. I have never paid attention to grams other than carbs... I have no idea how many fat grams or protein grams I eat. I watch percentages. I'm sure there are others who do watch those grams, but I haven't.

    Good luck.

      Re: Issues

Thanks, good to know about the grams....I have always watched percentages as well and it seemed to be working, but still I wasn't sure.

"Anything worth having has a price"....it's so true and next time I reach for something bad, I'll remember that! Thanks so much!

I seem to be in a stall right now (haven't lost in 2 weeks approx)...but it's no wonder with my little bits of bad stuff now and then. I have to stop that, then I need to find out if I'm still stalled, and if so, why. I have been floating between 150-152 for 2 weeks and I'm DYING to see the 140's! Even if it's 149.5! I've been eating those "minute muffins" for breakfast, but as of tomorrow I'm totally removing those from my diet for now and instead I'll be eating yogurt and berries for breakfast or cottage cheese and berries, and adding more high fibre veggies such as cauliflower. Hopefully this works!

        Erin,

Yep, those little bits here and there of bad stuff keeps the cravings from going away and make it harder to turn down bad stuff.

How about you put a little info in your siggie. You know... start date, height, start weight, current weight, and goal weight. That information will help us help you next time you have a question. You can do that by clicking on Quick Links in the blue bar at the top and then click on Edit Signature.

Also, what phase on Atkins are you on?

Hello Erin, Do you have Dr. Atkins book? On page 136 he discusses sugar cravings and suggest taking L-Glutamine. I take it and it truly helps me. I beleive in it! It stops the cravings. I take 1000mg with my evening meal because I use to have late night cravings. So if you're having problems at work, take it before you head out for the day. Best of health to you!

            Sherri,

What form is your L-Glutamine in? I have never taken it and I haven't had a problem with cravings yet, but it would be nice to be informed just in case.

              Re: Issues

Hi Mitzie, I take it in the gelatin capsul form. I've also taken it in powder form but have found that they work the same for me. With the capsul form it's no fuss no muss so to speak. It's an excellent supplement not only for cravings but is also excellent for maintaining a positive nitrogen balance( an anabolic state) and also aids rapidly growing cells (immune system lymphocytes and intestinal cell enterocytes). In addition, Glutamine is a regulator of acid-base balance and a nitrogen transpoter. In other words it's excellent for your digestion system, very healing. It also supports muscle mass. I'm sorry, a little more than you asked for but I'm one of those thorough kind of girls. lol It's an awsome supplement that I beleive anyone starting induction should take just for GP reasons. We're all fighting the sugar deman in induction or when we slip up.

I concur with the L-glutamine for cravings. Ask Outback Jess about it...she's using it too. I use the powdered form, stirred into a beverage. It's pretty much flavorless.

I'm very interested in the amino acids and have recently added L-carnitine and Taurine to my daily supplement regime.

                      Re: Issues

I've been so good with cravings or eating treats here and there.
Oh I've had them but far and few between.
I know I have my pumpkin pie with whipped cream at home and my berries with whipped cream. they are awesome and since I use Stevia it's very sweet.
I also make sure I have a stock of Ricotta cheese with cocoa and Stevia in the frig so I'm all set and personally I would rather have my chocolate or whipped cream than anything.
Besides I'm loosing weight so wonderfully. I love how I look. I'm in a size 10 now.
I never thought I'd see the day. went from a 16 to a 10 on this diet. It's so worth it to not eat cookies or candy.

Try to always have a low Carb snack handy, in the fridge at work or in a cooler if you are on the go. I prefer bacon, olives and pork rinds although they are salty, for times just like you are describing.
