  • My first week OWL-1

    Greetings, ADBB!

I have just completed my first week of OWL-1. I lost two pounds and I'm thrilled because I haven't lost since the first week of induction. And, I have dropped noticable inches. (I mean noticable by people other than me!) I love it!!!

I tried for the first time this week spaghetti squash and grilled okra. I liked both of them. I think most of the okra was too mature because it was a little too "chewy" (I guess that's a good description). The little okras were excellent though. I had spaghetti squash with alfredo sauce and grilled chicken. Yummy.

One of my favorite pre-Atkins meals was brat wurst with cabbage/bacon/ onion/peppers on a bun. I tried it this week without the bun. Loved it! Cabbage was hard for me to calculate because it has like 6 g of carbs per 1/2 cup, but 4 g of fiber. I know we get to subtract the fiber for "net" carbs, but I'm still worried the "gross" carbs will throw me over the limit. (Especially since I ate more like 1 and 1/2 cups of cabbage). For those of you having success, have you noticed the "net" carbs causing you problems for OWL? Also, I don't think my fat % is high enough anymore. Between meat and veggies, I feel pretty full.

I think I'll stick with OWL-1 for at least another week. I'd like to reach my 12 to 15 pounds gone marker before I risk making a mistake by moving on.

no you must only count the net carbs, the reason being that the fibre grams of carbs do not affect your sugar alcohols, this is why we only count net carbs!!

how many carbs are you hitting each day? you think your fat is low? what percentage is it? its really easy to get your fat percentages up, just cook things in more butter or oil or add mayo to a meal,.

it is highly important that you get your fat up, remember your trying to make your body burn fats primarily, you need to be eating some to help your body into ketosis.

          Agree with everyone here....

By the way, you have FRESH okra???? I'm so jealous! Anyhow, I love slicing the okra into quarters lengthwise, then frying them in hot oil and seasoning them with curry powder or chile powder.

Are you using fitday? if so, you can go to goals, click the menu to fiber and put in a number. It will start showing you how many grams of fiber you can subtract. I know it's scary, I am up to 30g of carbs and before subtracting my fiber yesterday I was at 40g. But there were 14g of fiber so I really am at 26. I should have eaten more.

Amazing but true! never hungry! Welcome to OWL the land of wonder!

              Re: My first week OWL-1

You guys are awesome with your advice. My carbs average about 30 g (pre-fiber calculation). My fat percentage is down to about 50% (from 65-70% on induction). I haven't been eating as much cheese this week on OWL, or my beloved avocadoes. On induction I enjoyed celery sticks with chipotle mayonnaise each evening as my husband and I cooked dinner (we used to have chips and salsa). I haven't done that this week because I thought the celery added to the new veggies would put me over the limit.

I will definitely think about adding the butter/oil/mayo. It sure is hard to break the "low-fat" habit.

                Re: My first week OWL-1

I use fitday and if I choose a veggie from their list, I usually edit the food and put the net carbs into the total carbs field.
Helps me to make sure I get enough carbs.

is the only way to subtract the fiber in fit day to click on the foods name then subtract in your head - or cutsomise it?

Is there a way to do an over all fiber subtraction?

I don't think there is an overall way to edit all your food like that at once.
I just click on every veggy, click the edit button and then change it.

To get Fitday to count the fiber for you, go into "Goals" on the left side of the screen and set a goal for fiber. It doesn't matter what number you set it at - mine is set at 1 just so it will count the fiber for me. Then, your fiber total will be displayed right near your carb total and can be subtracted at a glance, giving you your net carbs.

                      Easy!
