  • How long to remain in the rungs?

I haven't started with OWL yet, but I've got a question, which the book couldn't answer (or I just didn't get it).

I understand the part of "adding" 5 net carbs more each new week, but this rung thing is totally confusing me.

How long do I remain in a rung? Do I move each new week up a new rung and add new foods along with more net carbs?

    Thanks for your help.

Re: How long to remain in the rungs?

You can stay on the rungs as long as you want. Julierama is probably the best person for explaining OWL. But, I'll give it a go.

Say for induction you were eating around 12-15 net carbs per day. When you move to OWL, you add 5 net carbs of veggies per day and should then be eating between 17-20 net carbs per day. The only caveat to this is that if you are trying out a new veggie that you didn't eat during induction, only have 5 net carbs of that veggie 3 days that week.

The next week, you could add 5 more net carbs of veggies per day if you are still losing. You could stay at the first level for another week, too, if that makes you comfortable.

Now, when you get ready to move to the next rung, i would not go UP in carbs that week. I would recommend that you substitute the 5 net carbs of veggies for the 5 net carbs of dairy you'd have in rung 2. That way your net carbs stay the same as the week before (you know you can handle that carb level and still lose). What you are doing this time is not so much testing the fact that you could handle 25 net carbs per day, but that your body can "handle" the dairy...(yogurt, milk, cottage cheese, ricotta, etc.) Only have the dairy 3 times that week. If you continue to lose, the following week go ahead and bump up your net carbs to say 30 by having both 5 extra net carbs of veggies AND 5 net carbs dairy...>WEEE we're getting BOLD here. LOL

Thanks so much for the explanation! I'm getting more and more tickled to quit EI... I think I'm gonna start with OWL next week.

I have another question .... about rung 2. Do you eat the "Lactose-free" yogurt? Or greek yogurt which is high in fat?

Just had some myself 5 minutes ago!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
