  • Muffin in a minute

I am confused on the net carb amount for this. The board thread I found the recipe on said 6, the poster said 3.5 and when I enter it in fitday I am getting 11 (all net carb amounts). I like them alot for breakfast, but want to know the correct amount.

    the recipe I use -

    1/4 cup flax meal
    1 large egg
    1 packet splenda
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1 tablespoon vanilla extract
    1 teaspoon butter
mix and microwave for a minute

Thanks to all that can help

Where exactly does fitday say all the carbs are coming from?

      From fit day -

      .25 cup flax seed - 13 carbs 6 fiber = 7 net carbs
      1 large egg - 1 carb 0 fiber = 1 net carb
      1 tsp (i dont have packets) - 0 carbs
      1 tbs vanilla extract - 2 carbs 0 fiber = 2 net carbs
      1 teaspoon butter - 0 carbs
      1 teaspoon cinnamon - 3 carbs 0 fiber = 3 net carbs
      1/2 teaspoon baking powder - 1 carb = 1 net carb

fit day total 14 (higher than I thought)

      am i doing something wrong?

        Re: Muffin in a minute

Maybe I figured it out. I was using flax seed since I didn't see an option for flax seed meal. When I added the custom label from the flax meal I came up with 7 total net carbs for the muffin. That seems about right from what I have read on the different threads.

          Re: Muffin in a minute

that's kinda weird coz everything I can find with flax here (seed or ground) has like twice as much fiber than it has carbs in total (says so on the package), so I'd just count them as 1 as you can count them as - something.
we are supposed to take the info we have on the package aren't we?

            Re: Muffin in a minute

I was recently informed (after bragging about this muffin and my love for it) that the 1/4 cup of flax is not the allowed amount during induction. You have to be on the nuts rung to consume that much flax. boo hiss

Just a warning for those who don't know, cuz I sure didn't.

For those who can have them, OMG add a lil almond or cocoa powder, you can change it up to taste like anything! Even dinner rolls!

Yeah, we are supposed to take info from labels and most of my stuff on Fitday is entered as custom foods, but I don't think it is possible to have twice as much fiber than carbs because fiber is carbs. I have never made the muffin in a minute, so I don't know the answer to the original question.

And Disco is correct - until you are in the nut rung, you are only supposed to ingest 1 to 2 spoons of flax for constipation issues.

From what all I 've seen and used, flax is 100% fiber, = no carbs.

Here is a post made by one of our experts, Megs, about flax:

"Flax is safe for Induction, but as I wrote the book gives specific amounts and conditions for its use during Induction.

If you look at my responses in the flax threads, I always note the uses of flax during Induction and the amounts it's to be used because people mistakenly believe flax is a "free food". It's not during Induction.

                  For daily fiber supplementation
Chapter 8: "I recommend that you take one tablespoon of psyllium husks daily. Be sure to select a sugar-free product. You can also take one tablespoon of coarse wheat bran or flaxseed meal."

                  For relief of constipation
Chapter 11: "If you are constipated, mix a tablespoon or more of psyllium husks in a cup or more of water and drink daily. Or mix ground flaxseed into a shake or sprinkle wheat bran on a salad or vegetables."

So there is a limit set forth in the book. Again, if you use the flax as a food, then the On-Going Weight Loss phase is the appropriate phase to do that. During Induction it's only used as a fiber supplement or as a constipation reliever in the amounts specified in the book."

                  Hope this helps.

                    Re: Muffin in a minute

ooooh man - I am only on rung 1. I was kinda thinking flax should be on the nut rung, but when I read it somewhere online it said the muffin was safe at all rungs. I liked it so much and it has helped me with a breakfast I like and keeps me filling full till lunch time so I didn't look it up. Anyone know how many tablespoons are in 1/4? Maybe I can reduce the muffin to legal amounts.

There are 4 T in a 1/4 cup. Hopefully you've had no problems with flax seed. I found it stalled me.

Maybe make 2 smaller muffins from the recipe and eat one another day?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

You read my mind... I figure I can make one muffin and only eat half each morning. I can pair it with some chicken or something to hold me over.In the mornings the meat was starting to upset my tummy first thing so the muffin has helped alot. But maybe cutting the amount of meat down in the mornings will help me not feel like throwing it back up.
