  • rung plan sound good?

When I first moved up to rung 1, I read that by the end of OWL you should be about 5 pounds away from your goal. So being the obessive control freak I am, I worked out the math and discovered I would need to lose 5 pounds on each rung. So that was my plan each rung lose 5 then move on. Problem is (well i like it alot not really a problem lol) I just finished my first week on rung 1 and have almost lost my 5 pounds (need half a pound). But I plan to make this my WOL so I am not sure I want to move on so quickly. I feel like I am just starting to adjust to rung 1. Most days I have to tell my self to eat more veggies it is ok to go over 20. My question is should I stick to my plan so that it works out or just go by what I feel? I must admit I feel guilty even questioning my plan, but thats just the control freak in me.

Well, I look at it this way: You are going to lose weight much slower the further up the rungs you climb. So, if you're not ready to move on yet, don't. Maybe check back withyourself every week and honestly evaluate whether you are getting bored with your food selection and might be ready to move up. Then stay on the next rung for at least a week or until you lose x number of #'s and move up when you are ready. Sometimes adding too much back to fast can get overwhelming.

I am a control freak, too.

I wouldn't worry about advancing up the rungs according to the number of pounds lost on a particular rung... I do it according to time on each rung. Some people spend a week on each rung. I spend a minimum of 2 weeks on each rung. And I stayed on the first rung (more veggies) for almost 2 months! I have always hated veggies and was determined to do Atkins by the book this time around. I wanted to completely change my lifestyle and have an open mind to add as many veggies as I could. I also used that time to add more net carbs. Just don't add new foods and add extra carbs at the same time. That way if you stop losing at some point, you will know whether it was the new food or the extra number of carbs that is affecting you.

I started on Rung 6 Friday and will stay here at least 2 weeks. After completing all of the rungs, I think I will probably still eat mostly from the bottom half of the ladder since the upper rungs foods are more prone to cause trouble for some people. Although I was happy on Induction foods at the time, I am really very satisfied with my variety now that I have moved on to OWL. I am eating so healthy!

      Good luck!

You shouldnt be 5 lbs from goal if you reach the top of the ladder! but you should be 5lbs from goal before you move on to pre-maintenance!!

just wanted to clarify that part!!

I'm at the top of the ladder, but i mainly eat induction type foods with some fruit inolved! thats how i like to get my carbs in, on occasion i'll eat a whole wheat wrap, which ive had no problems with i'd just rather have the fruit!! i'm an apple FREAK!

Thank you Emma. I was under the understanding when you reach the top you move on to pre-maintence and ofcourse have found your CCL. I am glad that is clarified for me. Its just the control freak in me I know it. But it just seems so odd not having a plan. Saying I can move on when I want and switch to premaintence when I want. But I am resisting my myself. I have decided to wait to move on to rung 2 until I feel like I have really got a handle on the veggies. I am still looking for pumkin and a few others I haven't been able to find locally. Besides I am really enjoying my veggies.

You should indeed do what feels best to you and clearly you can't plan how much weight you'll lose.
Look at me, I haven't lost any weight since I started rung 1 almost 2 weeks ago but I've lost centimeters.
So I trust that veggies aren't a problem for me and move on to rung 2 on Wednesday (that's my plan, 2 weeks for each rung).
I guess if I'm especially happy on a certain rung, I might stay there longer if it feels good.
As long as you feel good, are healthy and keep losing, every plan (as long as its Atkins) should be right
Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P
