  • 2 days on OWL!

Hi, everybody, just thought I'd join in with you. I started OWL Monday, 25 carbs, extra veggies.

Did really well yesterday, I'm still eating veggies right now to finish my extra carbs.

It's really tough to be on a "diet" where you have to make yourself eat! JK

I'll definitely go to bed with a full tummy!

I don't really have any problems right now, just wanted to express my appreciation to Mitzi, Adena, Julie and Don and so many others on this board for encouraging me to take the step into the unknown to make this a lifestyle. Thanks, guys!

    Re: 2 days on OWL!

Congratulations on your weight loss so far! Good for you for taking the step to OWL. It's the first step towards creating a plan for permanent maintenance. Too many of us can tell you the reason we failed the first time was because we reached our goal during Induction or one of the early stages of OWL and then returned to our original eating habits. It is tempting to just get rid of those unwanted pounds quickly by staying in Induction but that usually ends up as a temporary solution that doesn't keep them off long-term.

Thanks, Attek, I appreciate the support.

I did my version of Atkins a time or two before--gave up pretty quick both times. This time I want to stay at a healthy weight for the rest of my life. I obviously can't do that eating potato chips, chocolate and drinking Dr Pepper every day. Or going home and sitting all night after sitting at my job all day.

This time I want to try new foods, find out new ways to cook and enjoy my food without letting it control me. I didn't know I liked zucchini and squash before this woe. Cream cheese wasn't anything I particularly cared for, but it comes in real handy at times. I can't wait to see what else I've limited myself from that I truly enjoy. I also found out that I think spaghetti squash is a little disgusting. I'll probably fix it a different way and see if I like it better, if not I don't have to eat it anymore. This time I'm willing to try new things.

I've been exercising for about 4 months now. Some days it's hard to overcome the inertia to start exercising, but knowing I'm accountable to the Board here helps me get up and start. Once I start, I really enjoy it most days. I always feel better and usually more energetic afterwards.

In my pre-Atkins life, I was afraid to go places and spend the night because I knew I snored. I have a teen daughter and chaperoning church girls was something I really didn't want to do, they can be pretty cruel about things like snoring moms. I don't think I do snore now--I've asked my kids and they swear they don't hear me. So, if I have to give up sugar and white flour forever, I still have freed myself to do so many more things. It's a small price to pay.

        What a great positive attitude

I hear you on the snoring dilemma - as it was one reason as a child I hated sleeping in a group - however much I tried I was always the one accused of keeping everyone awake!! I took after my father who would have won an all-England snoring competition!! In fact as a teenager I could tell if it was 'safe' to sneak in late at night from hearing whether he had gone to bed by the buzz-saw sounds you could hear from outside the house!!

Now I am happy to report that my DH says I dont disturb him with the slightest sound!! One more great side effect from the Atkins WOE!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
