  • Marmite

I'm on Rung 3 of OWL, am I allowed Marmite?

I'm not really sure what it's made of to be honest, but looking at the label it's about 2g of carbs per teaspoon. I bet it would be great spread on flax based "bread" or something, especially with some cream cheese!

    Cheers!

    Re: Marmite

Here is what I got off their site, I don't think that would be allowed, but check with one of the "senior" members here!

It's because we add a special vitamin blend to Marmite, enhancing the naturally nutritious yeast that's already there, that you can be sure Marmite's good for you...
When German scientist, Liebig discovered that brewer's yeast cells could be concentrated, bottled and eaten, Marmite was as close to being invented as it's possible to be, without actually having being invented...

It was in 1902 that the Marmite Food Company (later Marmite Ltd) was set up in Burton on Trent.

      Re: Marmite

      According to their website

      Yeast Extract
      Salt
      Vegetable Extract
      Niacin
      Thiamin
      Spice Extracts
      Riboflavin
      Folic Acid
      Celery Extract
      Vitamin B12
And it has 0.8 g net carbs per 4 grams (http://www.marmite.co.uk/love/nutrition/nutrition.html), so as long as you dont plaster your food with it I would say it is 'legal'.
If you have a food scale that shows small numbers (mine measures 5 grams per 'dit') you could put the jar on that and remove what you think a 'serving' would be for you and see how many grams it shows have been taken out so you can estimate how much you normally use.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
