  • I think I blew it

and now, I just want to quit

I lost over 10 pounds on Induction, stayed on it for about a month, then moved to OWL. All was going well with the veggie rung until I started noticing that the more veggies I added, the more I lost, which seemed strange. Anyways, I figured I would move to the fruit rung (I can't have dairy, nuts, beans and I don't drink, so I had to skip those rungs). I have added watermelon, berries and I ate some pineapple one day and now suddenly, no more weight loss! And I was doing OWL as you're supposed to - 5 for 5 like the book says.

I don't know whether to contribute the sudden hault to vacationing last week and hardly getting any veggies, or that I haven't been able to work out due to a tear in my knee. I still move around, but I am not doing 10 miles a day like I was on the elliptical. I am stuck right at 260, which for me is a feat in itself and I know I should be proud, but I am so discouraged. On the veggie rung, I lost like 10 pounds the first 3 weeks!

I should probably lay off the protein bars though each morning.

Please, someone tell me something encouraging before I just quit altogether.

    Hello

First off, congrats on your loss so far. Nice!

Next, I would suggest ditching the protein bars to see if that helps. I tried eating them, and they did stall me. Too bad, because they are really convenient for on the go. Once I get to maintenance, I will probably have some on hand... but they had to go for weight loss.

Now, did you add each new fruit no more than 3 days a week until you knew it didn't stall you? Did you make sure to add berries first before going on to the higher glycemic fruits? How many net carbs are you up to daily? Make sure to not add new foods and extra carbs in the same week.

OWL takes one heck of a lot of patience... there is a lot of experimentation going on. I have been in OWL for a while now, and I am always tweaking something. So many factors to consider... the rungs, the number of carbs, the number of calories, percentages... it takes a lot of dedication.

I really wouldn't quit yet... especially without ditching the bars first to see if that helps. Keep us updated and please ask more questions if you need to.

Hi logans! Whatever you do, please don't quit. Mitzie is right, OWL is about patience and experimentation but it's all worth it at the end. I think it's a combination of you not eating enough carbs for a whole week, then the lack of excercise and the integration of new food such as fruits. If anything start Rung 1 again for 1 week and then skip to the next one that you will stick to. O.K. Hope that works.

Hang tight, the protein bars stalled me out too, and I bumped out of ketosis when I had some cottage cheese with pineapple in it. get back to your vegies drop the bars drink your water. I have not lost weight for a couple of months but I have lost inches, have you measured? I know you will succeed !!

As pineapple is on the higher 'other fruits' rung of OWL it might be that affecting you.

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I found that strawberries stalled me, of all the weird things in the world... also found that i was allergic to them.. thats what OWL is about, finding out what your body can and cant take, dont get depressed about it, just use a process of elimination to find out what is stalling you...

however, i would cut out the protein bars as everyone else has said first, well known staller!

              I agree with everyone here.

You might want to add these fruits one "at a time". For example, add strawberries and see what happens, before you add watermelon. Adding the foods in singly will help you trouble shoot any problems. Because if you add strawberries one day, then try watermelon the next, you won't know if it was the strawberries or the watermelon that did it to you.

Also be very mindful about measuring these fruits. Sometimes, people make the mistake of thinking "1 cup of blueberries is 5 net carbs." and then they find out that they have been eating about 16 net carbs of blueberries!
