  • I totally went off Atkins today!

Ok, so what do you do when you were doing just fine and then go off Atkins for a whole day? Do you restart and go back to the induction phase? I had been doing Atkins for 3 weeks and had lost 9 pounds. Today I totally went off. I ate allllllll the forbidden foods. I plan on starting back up tomorrow, but I'm not sure if I need to start all the way back over and enter phase I again or what I'm supposed to do.

    Any advice?

I'm not sure... but I think you have to start over.. Your body is back to using carbs first. Induction is as much about readjusting your body as your mind..

If you have gone out of ketosis just go back to induction eating for a few days till you are back then resume yous Atkins phase at whatever rung of OWL you were at.

Be prepared to encounter cravings though, and have plenty of 'legal' food available so you only eat induction foods.

Also try to think about why you ate off plan for a whole day - was it a conscious decision to eat 'forbidden foods' because you are feeling deprived? Was it a situation yoiu were in where nothing 'legal' was available? Was it a group 'pressure' thing?

If you can pinpoint what made you decide to eat off-plan then you can work out strategies for managing to stay on-plan next time it occurs.
Perhaps working out substitutes for your favourites, or moving further up the OWL ladded to extent your choices would help, or taking something 'legal' with you to eat next time, or avoiding that particular group of friends till you can cope with eating differently from the main herd?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

AT 3 WEEKS IN it is easier to get out of ketosis. I would go back to induction just to be sure, "if it were me". I've been eating atkins 6 months i've had LIL cheats nothing real terrible i never went out of ketosis from it. BUT i was cheat free at least my 1st 12 weeks or more. I try to not see atkins as something you can go "off and on" it really should be viewed as a LIFELONG way of eating. I can honestly say i don't even crave bad stuff anymore. It's okay to slip up now and again as long as you get right back up. GOOD LUCK your worth it!

As Elizelllen said, if you are in OWL and you fall off, see if you are still in ketosis. If you are, then pick up where you left off. If you aren't drop to Induction for a couple of days to get back into ketosis, then pick up where you left off.

The most important thing for you to do now is to figure out why you fell off. Once you recognize the triggers that caused it, you can develop coping strategies to cope with those triggers the next time they arise---and believe me, you will be confronted with those triggers repeatedly during your Atkins. So figure out what did it to you and figure out ways to cope. If you can't think of ways to cope with your triggers, post a thread here and I'm sure people will post with their ways of coping with their triggers.
