  • Cheat-Days are over....

I just got back from a 2-week vacation, during which I moved from OWL directly to the lifetime maintenance phase - this is recommended in one of the Atkins books.

To be honest, I didn't monitor what I was eating at all, as I did the previous 5 weeks on Atkins with Fiday.com. And apart from all the allowed foods of all rungs I also ate forbidden foods ... and cheated a few times (yeah... shame on me).

I was quite concerned that I would have gained back 4 - 5 lbs (or my sugar levels would have changed) - visiting my folks usually has a massive impact on my eating behaviour and habits - but to my surprise when I got on the scale yesterday morning I didn't gain at all, I actually lost almost 2 lbs and my levels are as before the holiday.

I guess all of the walking around, swimming and light aqua fitness kept my metabolism going strong. This is very encuraging. Yet, I believe it's best to get back on track with a week of Induction to kick start ketosis again and then move on to OWL.

Actually, it's not surprizing at all. Some of us have very high CCLLs---well over 100 net carbs daily. My CCLL is 50 net carbs---so you can imagine the kinds of foods I could have eaten and still lost during my Atkins.

The problem is some folks think they can't lose weight unless they stay below 20 net carbs daily. So find your CCLL and see what it is. The higher it is, the easier it will be for you to do your OWL and Pre-Maintenance because your food choices will open up tremendously.
