  • Question

I moved to the dairy rung last Thursday. That night, I dropped 2 lbs. So I have been eating a serving of cottage cheese every other day.

No cravings, no triggers, nothing I notice vis-a-vis appetite.

BUT, I have not dropped an ounce since then.

    How should I proceed?
    Start date: 7/29/2007

    Scale: SW:235 CW:193
    GW:150

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

    Mini goals:
    215 - met 9/10/07
    205 - met 10/17/07
    195 - met 2/20/08
    180

    I survived a two-month stall!

    Re: Question

personally i would keep going for a further week, if no changes then i would drop that out of your diet and try something else in the dairy rung, maybe trying it again at some point in the future!

a week is a hard timescale to work anything out from, have you lost any inches in that week?

      Re: Question

I agree with Emma, give it a bit longer, then drop cottage cheese and try something else and see if it changes, how about yogurt?

This was something i really found the hardest part of owl..trying to determine if my weightloss had just slowed or if it was an actual food that was causing it. OWL is definately a learning process!

        To answer questions:

My measure day is on the 9th. I do it on the 23d and the 9th. So if I have lost, I won't know if it's from before or after the dairy.

I can't find ANY yogurt that is 5 net carbs a serving. Not one. Ideas?

(I already eat cheese, always have, because I eat very little meat. So I wouldn't want to add any more cheese)

          Re: Question

Isn't a "stall" no weightloss for 3 weeks? And isn't that why it was suggested on this board that we try each rung (unless we don't like it or it gives us bad cravings or whatever) for approx 3 weeks at a time?? Did you add anything besides cottage cheese on the other 3 days??

Just curious before I start proceeding up the rungs since I'm in my first week of OWL. Great question!

            Re: Question

No, I didn't add anything besides cottage cheese, because the only thing that sounded good was plain yogurt, and as I said, I couldn't find any that was Atkins acceptable..........<sigh>

                Re: Question

I'm in southern California, near San Diego. Maybe I'll go down to Whole Foods in San Diego and see if they have the greek kind.

I get my greek yogurt from Whole Foods. They have several different brands at mine. I always get the Fage Total. It comes in full fat, 2%, and 0 fat. I get the full fat. It's pricey! We have a much lower cost of living in Louisiana than in California and I am paying $2.49 a container here (7 ounces). For *me*, it's definitely worth the price.

The Fage Total full fat has 6g carbs per 7 oz. container. The 2% fat has 8g carbs but fewer calories.

(and I guess I'll stop about paying $1.79.)

                      Re: Question

The 6% and 3% plain yogurt that we can get here has 11g's per cup, i'd imagine it's the same there. So I buy the large container and measure it out myself, usually i have half a cup, which would be 5.5g's of carbs. you could have a little less than a cup if you really want to stay at 5 or below. The thing i really watch for withyogurt is that it doesn't have fillers (many do) only milk ingredients, and that it has active bacterial cultures, which are very good for you.

                        Re: Question

Is it really suggested to spend three weeks at each rung? I do not remember reading that. I thought Dr. Atkins says one week?

                        149.8/no weigh/ 119

                        1st goal: 139 (earlier weight)
what the rungs mean to me:
                        rung 1 - more veggies
rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
                        rung 4 - berries, melon
                        rung 5 - wine -
                        rung 6 - beans, hummus
                        rung 7 - other fruits
rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
                        Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
                        (on to pre-maintenance)
