Help! I am or was in rung 6 (35 carbs) and holding. For a few weeks now i have only lost 2 pounds (62 total). I am also having sweats and chills that are driving me nuts. Any idea what might be causing them?

Today I bought new strips to test and sure enough, I am not in ketosis. What could have happend? And do I need to start induction all over again? And if so, will it take 2 weeks to get back to ketosis?

    thanks for any help!

no no nooooooo, ignore the sticks, they dont always work!

if you're still losing your GOOD!

theres too many rules with those sticks, never test in a morning, never test after exercise, yet if you test to late in the day then your urine is so dilute from all the water it wont register on the sticks

bin the sticks, is the best advice i can give!

Does this mean that for a few weeks you have lost 2 pounds each week or do you mean that you have lost 2 pounds in a few weeks time? Either way, you are still losing. Your weight loss will eventually slow down. How are your clothes fitting? I can tell a difference in my clothes even on the weeks the scale doesn't move. Six months into this WOE, I am happy to lose between 1 and 2 pounds per week. Sure, I would like it to be more, but this is a healthy way to do it.

I don't know about the sweats and chills thing... sounds like you're coming down with something. I don't think it's related to Atkins.

I agree with Emma about the sticks. I have no use for them whatsoever. There are other ways to tell if you are in ketosis. Is your appetite still supressed? Experiencing any cravings?

      Hang in there.

I totally disagree about the stix. I use them everyday sometimes twice a day depending on what I've eaten. I have been in the purple every day since July 30th. I drink 74 ounces of water and I test any time of day. I think that once you take your carbs up to a certain level you do stop being in ketosis but you dont necessarily stop losing weight. It is possible to lose weight without being in ketosis. We have done it on other diets.

well you know, if the stix show you are out of ketosis and you stop losing now, it could also mean you reached your ACE.
I just re-read some parts of the book yesterday and Dr. Atkins mentions that if the stix showing no ketones could mean that.
I mean that's what OWL is for, right? To find out your ACE.
Anyway, I doubt it takes you 2 weeks to get back into ketosis.
I was in ketosis the first day I restarted on induction level after being off plan for 10 days.
I was really surprised and thought that's impossible but here I am having lost 3.3 kg of what I regained in just 4 days, so it's gotta be right.
If I were you, and I'm no expert at all but that's what I'd do, I'd either stay on 35 carbs for a week or 2 and see if I really stopped losing or I'd go back to 30 right away and check if that makes a difference on the stix and in losing.
of course if you lost these 2 pounds DURING those 2 weeks meaning it still is a regular weightloss every few days or so and you didn't just drop 2 pounds at the beginning and then stopped losing for 10 days or so, it might not be that at all and you could just be a slow loser right now.
Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P

The thing with the stix meaty is they dont work for everyone, great that they work for you, but not everyone has that luck, personally they DO work for me, but they are not something i would ever rely on if i didnt register, i dont even bother with them anymore.

You're still losing weight. So, the 35 carb level isn't your problem. And there's no need to start Induction again, because you are still losing weight, albeit slowly. If you haven't taken your measurements, do so now and start monitoring them.

As for the ketostix....In the book, Dr. Atkins says when you reach higher carb level above the 40-50 range, those stick might stop registering, eventhough we are still in ketosis/lipolysis (because we still have the physical signs of ketosis and because we are still losing pounds/inches.

So, ditch the sticks. As long as you are losing weight---no matter how slowly or quickly---you are still in lipolysis/ketosis. If you look through the FAQ forum of the board, you will find FAQs about the physical signs of ketosis and about those ketostix.

Also make sure you are accurately measuring and counting your foods. Often when folks 'get into the swing' of things, they stop measuring accurately and start eating a higher level of carbs than what they think.

I have no clue why you are having chills and sweats. A visit to your doctor is in order for that because it might mean you are coming down with a cold or something else.

I have always relied heavily on the sticks in the past, but I feel strangely liberated now that I cannot find them anymore...

Having said that, it usually takes me exactly three days of induction to go into ketosis and you can definitely tell by the burst of energy and the lack of appetite.

If you really feel out of ketosis, consider only three days of induction and then move back into the rung where you were.

Re: Not In Ketosis Anymore? grrr

Shannon, is she still losing weight. Therefore going back to Induction is a complete waste of her time. It's natural to have periods of time where weight loss is "faster" or "slower" and it's natural to have periods to lose inches and not lose pounds or vice versa. Running back to Induction at the first sign of trouble is not a good habit to form because it only reinforces the "I can only lose weight if I'm in Induction, eventhough, my CCLL is 65." mentality.

She should review her Atkins carefully: look over her menues, see if she added any new food(s) that coincided with her slow down. She should make sure she is measuring her foods properly and is really eating at the carb level she thinks she is.

Thank you everyone for all your help...AGAIN! ;-) I had only lost 2 lbs in 26 days. I had been loosing about a lb per day before that. Welllllllll I've got good news to report. I did not go back to induction, but I increased my green veggies and reduced my almonds! Still staying under my 35 carbs. And sure enough I lost 3lbs this weekend!!!! The funny thing is that I tried the sticks one more time (just because I have them)... and now I am in ketosis again! Things that make you go HMMMMMMMM!

How much almond were you eating? According to the book, nuts are limited to 1 ounce (except cashews which are limited to 1/2 ounce) during OWL. Also, those 3 cups of veggies you ate during Induction are your minimum daily vegetable intake for OWL.
