  • Maltitol???

OK, I have hit OWL and have a question on Maltitol which is a chemical sugar carb, I think similar to aspartame. Does anyone know if it is a staler. I purchased this chocolate bar just out of curiosity because I saw it had 0 impact carbs but 19 maltitol carbs. Thank you!

Maltitol is a sugar alcohol. Sugar alcohols are a "your mileage may vary" type thing.

      Gendoyle,

I had some sugar alcohol over the weekend - not sure if it was maltitol or not - but for MY BODY it caused very loose bowels, my ketostix dropped down a few shades, I put on a few pounds (I hope just water!) and started an unbelievable binge and complete failure in my sticking to this WOE.

I have read elsewhere on this board about other people who use products with sugar alcohols in them, and they don't seem to have any issues at all. So, it all depends on how your body reacts to them.

Good luck with your chocolate if you do eat it - I hope you are one of the lucky ones!

        Re: Maltitol???

To add to what has already been said, my own personal rule as to 'count or not' is that if the SA's have no bad effect then it is plain that they are being processed by my body so I need to count every carb in my carb allowance - which is a good portion-control way for me to avoid them!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I would stay away from it if you can. When I was on Atkins the first time around I used to eat a lot of Atkins chocolate peanut butter cups, which were LOADED with malitol. It gave me some serious gas and stomach cramps. I don't think it's digestible so the only way for it to leave your body by giving you some really bad gas...haha

              There...are....atkins...peanutbutter...cups!!??
              (Homer-like drooling)

Please tell me these (or something similar) still exist. I know for a fact (thanks to Gendoyle) that malitol in moderation does nothing naughty to me.

That got me laughing! I love Homer! Would love some darned peanut butter cups too - if only my guts would cooperate.
