  • Urgent damage control please

    I've been away for a while, with no book, scales etc and have been inadvertantly overdoing the carbs as I made some gross miscalculations of carbs in recipes.
    My weight loss had always been very slow with lots of stalls and I got as far as the nuts and seeds rung when I went away. I was eating very late at night, not exercising and not having enough water either. I haven't had anything from other rungs, apart from a small bar or two of lowcarb chocolate (gave me lots of gastro probs so I assumed it wouldn't affect me) and 2 teaspoons of lowcarb sugarfree rasberry jam - I don't think I overdid the nuts but did eat maybe too many roasted veggies (turnips, cauliflower, sprouts mmm)
    Bottom line is I have gained 2 kilos in 2 weeks
    I am just barely in Ketosis - the reading is the lowest it can be.

    I need advice from experienced ADBBers now -

    Shall I continue where I left off, back onto the nuts and seeds, counting the appropriate carbs,
    or
    Start again at induction
    Help, I'm so low

    Glad to see you are starting back, my advice would be to do a clean 14 day induction, then move on OWL Rung 1, etc. Can't say enough about how important drinking enough water is and just some basic exercise.

    1-Atkins WOE/WOL plan works
    2-I need to always work on the behaviors and triggers that make me over eat.
    3-Atkins WOL is part of the puzzle, but is not the entire thing.
    4-Self-deprecation only feeds our inner ego and not in a good way.

      Don't beat yourself up. Don't be depressed. Look on what has happened not as an entirely negative thing, but as a really valuable learning experience that you can take forward with you on your journey.

      You now know that doing Atkins 'kinda' does NOT work. Get dug into your book, read and read here at the forum, look over a load of sucess stories, psyche yourself up and get yourself motivated again. It sounds mad, but look in the mirror often and say out loud to yourself, with feeling "I Can do this and I WILL do this"

      Measure, weigh (yourself and your food!!) and then just jump in and start again. This time stick like glue to the rules, do a clean induction and then start climbing OWL by the book.

      You know MUCH more about it now and your experience, though it seems awful now, could well turn out to be THE turning point of your journey.

        If you do decide to go back to induction (and this might not be necessary as you say you are "barely"in ketosis... with ketosis, either you are in it, or you aren't), I would advise that you do that only for the time it takes to get you back into ketosis proper, then go right back to the rung you were at before and continue on from there.

          as sally said, if u are in ketisos, u are in ketosis.
          and since u have already been on owl there is no need to do a complete induction again.
          u might wanna do 3 days of induction or so if that makes you feel better but by the sound of it it shouldnt be needed.

          go back to where u left off and im sure the losses will start soon again.
          i'd be guessing a big part of the weight u gained is water anyway so that should flush out real quick.
          Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P

            Thanks to everyone for their encouraging words. I've checked myself again and am now getting a nice shade on the ketosticks, it's at the 2nd level from the bottom (of five).

            Thanks again to everyone who took the trouble to post, considering all your advice, I think I'm going to restart at rung one, veggies, see what happens, then re-evaluate.

            Now I need some inspiration from another forum....
