  • What do I watch for?

First week of rung 1, and I don't have any ketosis strips atm. Are here any warning signs of trouble? (other than not losing weight - that could take a week or two to spot) Would it be a craving, or hunger at an odd time.. etc?

    Hey Bette

You wont notice anything during rung one, ive not used ketostix all the way thru, so dont worry about those okay?

Its about trying different veggies and seeing if any cause a craving for you, if they do, eliminate them, at the end of the week when you check the scales, if you've had a loss(inch or scale), you know eating those 5 extra net carbs of veggies were okay for you, you can either stay at this for another week, up the carbs a further 5 net or move on to the next rung.

use the scales and the tape measure as what to do next, do your pocket a favour and dont by anymore sticks!

I dont have my DANDR to hand but I think it is Chapter 12 that has the chart of the signs you should be looking for - it is called the Blood-Sugar Symptom Test
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: What do I watch for?

Bette, I've found that my worst food intolerance symptoms are those that make me IRRITABLE. It sometimes doesn't even cause cravings (OR I've gotten really good at just ignoring the cravings), but it does cause me to have a crappy attitude. Usually it starts with random thoughts about things that irk me, and then I start dwelling on them and getting an attitude about it. That is one of the symptom of low blood sugar. Even a vegetable could cause this. It's one of the hardest things to pin point. IMO I suffered for a year not knowing this.

It may be hard to determine which ones are causing bloat. I lost for a year eating dairy. I probably would have lost much much faster had I taken dairy out of the equation much earlier, but I didn't think I had an issue with it. Once I got into premaintenance, i found that I do have a problem--it causes bloating and cravings and an insulin spike and resulting low blood sugar (and bad attitude).

As the others said, check the book's list for symptoms.

The Blood Sugar Symptom Test is in Chapter 12. Frankly, I think it's a better way to access if your body is reacting badly to a food than to wait for one week and see if your weight/measurements have changed. You'll know within a few hours to a day if the food is bad for you because you'll see the symptoms.

That's interesting! I never thought about mood swings. I'm definitely checking out that chapter as soon as possible. So far I've only added pumpkin, and I haven't felt oddly.

I'm wondering about dairy for myself as well. I've had a sneaking suspicion that I might be lactos intolerant, but usually that was with ice cream or milk. I'll have to watch that rung closely. The only cheese that seems to bother me is cream cheese, but no so much when cooked in something.
