uhoh, out of ketosis...what now?

  • uhoh, out of ketosis...what now?

    so i dared to pass the 50 net carbs yesterday and it kicked me right out of ketotis.
    had to happen i guess, i just dunno what to do now.
    i mean staying under the 50 isnt a problem but without being in ketosis, i wont lose anymore, right?
    so does that mean i gotta go back to induction for a few days now?
    i really dont wanna lol...i got so used to what im eating now and been such a good girl...that just isnt fair.
    Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P

    Sera, are you saying you're out of ketosis because your ketosticks stopped registering a change?

    If you eat above 50 or 60g per day (I can't remember the exact number, let me go look in DANDR), your ketosticks will stop changing color, regardless of your CCLL.

      As long as you continue to lose weight gradually, lose inches, have your appetite under control and experience none of your old symptoms, you are clearly burning fat. Moreover, in most cases the LTS [ketostix] will no longer turn pink or purple once you are taking in 50 or more grams of carbs a day, so they are of no use as people get above that level of carb intake.

        oh, i see.
        thanks julie, i must admit i havent touched the book since i started and the sticks were indeed what i was relying on.
        i probably missed that part when reading the book because it didnt seem as important to me when i had only just started induction

        thanks a lot, I'll keep going and hope that i keep losing weight...hard to say with my weight going up and down every day.

          Another way of knowing if the added foods are affecting you is to see if you experience a recurrence of the blood sugar symptoms Dr Atkins listed.
          Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

            thanks guys.

            well my body has just proven that 55 net carbs are fine, lost 100 grams (thats the tiny steps it takes but a loss is a loss) and 1 more cm

            I guess with less carbs things would go a bit faster though but since im not thaaaat far from goal anymore I probably shouldn't be surprised if it goes even slower at one point, eh?

              That's interesting Juli, I've registered in ketosis over 80g's in the past a day, but that was when i was running 5k 4x a week, I think exercise can affect this number? Though it could also prove that you can't put alot of faith into ketostix....

              Sera, you can continue lose weight without being in ketosis, many people on non-ketogenic diets lose weight and have never been in ketosis.

                right Jen, i know, it has just never worked for me
                i've never been too high on my daily calories but on the carbs, so the usual low calorie diets are useless for me.

                but luckily my body still seems to consider my 55 net carbs low carb so it keeps going with the small losses

                  Sadie, I agree, just another reason not to put too much faith into ketosticks! I'm not sure if it varies by brand or if older sticks won't register or what, but I remember reading that in DANDR and wondering why it's worth even using ketosticks--I've never used them and have done OK without them.

                    well for me they were a confirmation that i was doing alright even when i didnt see any losses.
                    to everyone his own, i guess but i was glad to have them.
