  • Ricotta Cheese...OWL

I am beginning rung 2 next week and was wondering if ricotta cheese, cottage cheese, and sugar free yougurt are acceptable. I miss ricotta cheese (use to make it as a dessert!)

If the SF yogurt is acceptable..please list the kind that you have used...Dannon, etc.

I am also open to suggestions on different cheeses!

I buy FAGE 'total' unsweetened greek yogurt which is thick and creamy and has 3 carbs per 100 gram (3.5 ounces weight).
From what I read on here it seems to be available worldwide.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

When I eat yogurt, I buy the plain full fat yogurt. I like Stonyfield Organic. The serving size is limited to about 1/2 cup, but my appetite isn't so huge anymore that I need to eat a full cup of yogurt to satisfy my hunger.

            Hello Kass Dear,
You're allowed 2/3 cups ricotta, which is 5 grams of carbs.

All dairy is fair game on the Dairy Rung, including milk (yes, regular whole milk!), buttermilk, and milk products like kefir.

Ooooh you have *GOT* to try Greek yogurt, it's excellent!

Greek yogurt is not available in my area, so like Megs, I buy plain full-fat yogurt. That way I can control what goes in it, and it isn't overly sweet and full of splenda like "low carb" yogurt.

I had to actually stop buying ricotta cheese because I like it TOO much ..it does make an awesome desert though..when mixed with coco and splenda especially!

I buy regular full fat yogurt as well (either 3% or 6%)...we do get a brand of 10% greek yogurt here that is to die for (Liberté organic) but medium sized container is over $5 and i refuse to spend that much $$ on it. i only buy it occaisionlly as a treat.

                      Kass,
Just a word of caution. Make sure when eating all dairy , to read the ingrediants. Make sure it doesn't have any fillers in it, especially sugar.

Is this Vitamin D milk??? Can I use a 1 carb soy milk?

                        I am getting excited!

Vitamin D milk should be fine. Stick with milk that is full-fat, as anything light or skim will have added sugars!

Soy milk will not be legal until Rung 6 (Legumes) of OWL, because it is a soy product.

Where does this info come from??? I am looking at the OWL Carbohydrate Ladder in the 2002 edition of DANDR and rung 2 reads: 2. Fresh cheeses (as well as more aged cheese).

No mention of milk of any kind. Cow's milk has a lot of milk sugar (lactose) and carbs.
