  • yet another question......

ok, i am on the berry rung of owl. have continuously lost, so no problems. i have stayed on each rung 2 weeks. i started berries today, BUT i am craving nuts. now that i am off of the nut rung, can i exceed 5 grams a day? when can i add, say, 7 grams of carbs (nuts?) do i have to stay at:
    5 extra grams of veggies
    5 extra grams of dairy
    5 extra grams of nuts
    until pre-maintenance????

when you move up the rung you do not quit the foods behind you. you just add those new foods to your existing menu.

I'll have to double check my book but I believe from past experience you add 5 grams of net carbs to the total number of carbs you eat in a day... not an additional 5 grams from a specific food group. And each time you move up the rung you add 5 grams.

If you want to add more nuts than the allowed amount in OWL, then you can stay on that rung for another 2 weeks while checking for blood sugar symptoms as detailed in DANDR as well as seeing if your weightloss continues before moving to the fruits rung.

But remember Dr Atkins told us to add 1 ounce of nuts in OWL not 5 grams of them!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

The fact that you are craving nuts is a sign that you need to watch them. If adding them back in causes you to crave them, they may be a trigger food for you. I couldn't add them back in to eat out of hand, but I can use them in recipes if I go easy on them.

I 100% agree with Sunny. If you are craving nuts, then that is a sign that they are a trigger food. I would avoid them, not add more. More than likely when you add more, it is only going to intensify the WANT for more (the craving).
