Re: Post Goal Blues! Is there such a thing?

Ohhh, I do wish I could relate to that problem LOL! I will again, just not today

But seriously, I am SO glad you posted this. It means you're AWARE of the fact that, in a sense, you're addicted to seeing that scale move. I have a friend, that thrived on the compliments of her weight loss, and it is such a feel good rush, how do you quit? Well, she's lost, and lost, and has gone from chubby, to lookin hot, to smokin hot, and sadly, on to thin, too thin, and now gaunt.

You do need to set new goals to replace that part of your life, and continue to be aware of yourself so that you don't gain it back. I do wish you the best! Great job on the transformation!

Yep... I think I'm getting the hang of the "thinking like a thin person" mentality. At first, I really did have a couple of weeks of feeling bewildered... then it was almost like I was bored, because I didn't have the "task" of losing weight. Then, Thanksgiving happened, and I got busy again.

I don't think that I was addicted to seeing the scale move downward (although I would suspect that some people are)... it was just what it was supposed to do for a long time. I kind of felt like I had lost the purpose (maybe even passion) in my life, when it didn't have to move anymore. "Losing weight" was who I was for so long... when I hit goal, I became .

Thankfully, that feeling is subsiding and I'm in that "thinking like a thin person" mode. I've got to tighten up this bod... that will be quite a project, believe me. As I said earlier, I think that losing a few more pounds would help. I'm just going to see what happens, naturally. I'm still getting the hang of "leveling off" my weight, so it is possible that I may lose a pound or two just trying to do that. We'll see.

I agree. Im not at my goal yet but its great to read posts like these, from folks who are, and better prepare myself mentally for not watching the scale go down. I think maintenance is trickier because you're at a point with so many more options - it really does take skill to stay where you worked so hard to get!

Re: Post Goal Blues! Is there such a thing?

I listened to the Podcast the other night. I think that is what I'm going through. After so long of weight loss, I am having a difficult time of 'thinking like a thin person'. When I look in the mirror, I don't see myself as being thin. I see the flab and some excess skin in places and think, Boy I have to lose that! I still have a long ways to go and can now work on those area, however, I am actually pretty toned up, and in certain places that is just going to be the reality of it, short of surgery.

I guess that is just something that happens. Your skin is so elastic, but after being stretched out for so long, it just doesn't all go back. My face, neck, shoulders, chest and arms aren't too bad. However, just below my chest, my waist, and the inside of my thighs, has that excess flabby skin. I do ab crunches, abbduction, adduction, etc, but nothing seems to work.

One thing is for sure. No Speedos for me!

Re: Post Goal Blues! Is there such a thing?

Yes there are goalie blues. A strange sense of emptiness when what we've worked for for weeks/months/years has been achieved... a feeling of: What's next?

For me, it was the challenge of maintaining that helped; but it took me a good few weeks of the goalie blues before I settled into that mindset.
And, for me, it really is true that maintaining is harder than losing. You have to balance, rather than simply slide.

You'll get used to it, and do just fine, I'm willing to bet . Maintenance may be harder, but it's so very satisfying. Even after two and a half years, I still haven't lost that slightly smug, self satisfied feeling (not nice, I know, and I try to not show that, but it's the truth).
              Before and after:

              PLEDGING FLIGHTS
Completed: 1st set of buildings and mountains (Everest,M.Blanc & Kilimanjaro, twice); Tower Masts & Chimneys; More virtual buildings; Challenger's Choice x 2 (volcanos and mountains on Mars). Currently climbing: Mount Snowdon again: 416/475

Start 10 Jan 2005. Maintenance since Aug. 2005.

Oh, Sally! You are so nice, that you never show that. So, I think it is just fine if you feel a little smug. You've earned that, girl!
