  • Question about Rungs in The O.W.L. phase

I was reading up on the O.W.L and looked at the rungs. I do not drink alcohol often at all. Maybe once a month. When I get to this phase can I skip it and go on to the next rung or just add an additional 5 carbs and stay with what I'll already be eating?

Also during induction I'm not eating anywhere 20 grams of carbs a day. What carbs I do eat come from vegetables. I also currently am not eating dairy (except cream cheese) because I'm fighting candida. Cheeses are the second rung of the ladder. I know I'm eating roughly 10-15 carbs a day. Its just natural for me I'm able to function during the day... even exercise. When i start this next phase should I keep better track of what carbs I'm taking in? Dr. Atkins mentioned in the DANDR getting a little notebook to keep track maybe I'll do that. I just don't let food rule my life anymore, for me that includes tracking every food I eat. Don't get me wrong I look at the figures. I just don't get so anal about it like I did last time. Last time I became obsessed with what I ate and I took it too far.

Last time I did this way of eating I lost a bunch of weight but I rarely went over 20 grams and I never did the rungs. This time I want to be more successful and stay on this way of eating for life. so I want to have a clear understanding or how to proceed. And for that I need a little guidance. Thanks for the help everyone!

Re: Question about Rungs in The O.W.L. phase

When you want to jump a rung you should double the amount of time on the rung below, so if you normally do 2 weeks at each rung, you'd do 4 on the one below alcohol.

On rung one you are eating 5 additional net carbs of veggies, if you ate 15 on induction, you will eat 20 on OWL, eat as you did on induction plus that 5 net carbs.

I, like you, the first time around, stayed around induction on 20 carbs, it is much easier and much more successful to do this WOE as it is wrote, best of luck to you!

Do you ever make recipes that use wine or spirits in them? If so then you could use that as your 'alcohol' rung 5 net carbs addition.

If that is not part of your cooking regimen then it would be fine to miss that rung out, and add an extra 5 net carbs from one of the lower rungs for the time you would have stayed on rung 5.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
