  • First Day on O.W.L and Lovin' It!

This morning I got up and ate my customary three scrambled eggs with bacon crumbles and a handful of shredded spinach in it. Then I got my first true satisfying salad since I've restarted. I built an awesome salad! First I had 2 c. of the Italian Blended Salad that has one net carb per 2 1/2 cups. then I added about half a cup of baby spinach to it to give it more nutrition. Honestly I don't think I had enough of it left to even make a carb. Then I added pickles, green olives, bacon crumbles, and shredded cheese. It was AWESOME!!! I found this great South Beach Diet Italian dressing that only has 3 carbs per 2 tblspoons. It tastes yummy even for South Beach Diet Food. Yes, I know I'm doing the Atkins Diet but I like Italian Dressing and most places load theirs up with sugars and has like 5 carbs a serving. Anyway... Just thought I'd share my experience thus far with all you just starting induction because if you hang in there your rewards are unrivaled!

Your salad sounds good. My favourite is a Greekish salad with spinach, pepper, tomato, cucumber, feta. But yeah I agree: OWL is awsome.

OWL is great. I enjoy so many foods now that in my fast life I would not have even considered (peanuts, ricotta, etc). In a few weeks I am moving onto berries and can't wait to have some in my yogurt.

yogurt is allowed on the dairy rung - so not too long
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Congratulations! BTW, when you get to the dairy rung, try some plain greek yogurt. It is awesome. You can mix in some berries and put a packet of Splenda in it! Yum! OK, now I'm hungry! LOL

You're right. I should have said once you get to berries. You can still add Splenda to it w/o berries at first. Greek yogurt is lower in carbs than regular yogurt and it thicker and has more fat in it. Fage is a popular brand. Though it is definately more expensive. It also may be tougher for you to find. Usually you find it at Whole Foods or upper end grocers.

I just called my local Healty and Vitality Center and guess what! They have it as well as organic berries. I cant wait until I get to that level! I may buy all my stuff now in anticipation of those phases... thank you soooo much!

What I liked about Rung 1 was that I was able to eat 5 net carbs of something like the faux cauliflower mashed potatoes, a cup of green beans and a protein for my meals. It made the meals more "normal" for me to have that extra 5 net carbs of the Induction veggies.
