  • Dannon Light and Fit Carb & Sugar Control.

I was looking through the yougurt Isle at my local grocery store comparing prices and checking out the carb content in expectation of moving the the next O.W.L. level in another 2 weeks. ( I like to be prepared ahead of time).

I found the yougurt listed above and nearly crapped my pants. Instead of the normal carb content of yogurt being in the 20's this had three grams of carbs.
I didn't get it yet because I'm not at that level but I think it should be okay when I do move one.

Have any of you tried it or seen it?

I've seen it, but never bothered buying it. For one reason, if it has fruit in it, it won't be legal until that particular fruit's rung. For another reason, the serving size is small (less than 1/2 cup) and it's not worth the price per serving, imo.

Greek yogurt has a carb level roughly in the 6-8 net carbs per cup. Whole milk, plain yogurt has carb counts about 12-16 net carbs per cup. I buy Stonyfield Organic plain, which has about 12 net carbs per 1 cup (about 6 per 1/2 cup.) I can flavor it anyway I want. I can even use it in non-sweet applications like chicken marinades, salad dressings, etc. So for me, it's more practical and cheaper in the long run.

Just want to clarify something...I know some folks eat the fruit flavored yogurts during the Dairy rung with "no problem at all". Well, here's the problem with that. If you stop losing weight or develop blood sugar symptoms, you won't know if it is the yogurt or the fruit causing it.

the one I was looking at is Vanilla. I wouldn't try a fruit one until I"m on that rung. But vanilla seemed okay to me.

I've tried the Dannon carb control yogrut, but prefer REAL wholemilk yogurt without artificial sweeteners. I felt the Dannon stuff was too sweet, had an aftertaste, and frankly, was a rip-off. When you buy plain yogurt, you can use it for so many things, and the flavor possibilities are endless. I like plain yogurt with cinnamon--it doesn't even need sweetener!

The vanilla is legal for the dairy rung, just remember to count the sweetener as part of your daily allowance.

I have not seen it. What was it sweetened with?

I like yogurt. I usually have home made. I make it with whole milk.

I've tried the vanilla & the strawberry and thought it tasted yuky. I even went as far as adding in fresh berries of any kind and it still has a terrible taste. Stick with the greek or the whole milk & cut your serving. It tastes much better IMO.

cool I'll definatly look into the greek yogurt. How many carbs will it have in it per serving and what is the serving size?

I picked up a greek yogurt in the grocery yesterday, but it had >20g of sugar so I quickly put it back! LOL

I am moving into the dairy rung and I really miss yogurt ~ what about the high sugar content? Is that not a problem?

Make sure your Greek yogurt is FULL FAT. There are lower fat versions that have added sugar. I believe Greek yogurt is only 4g for a full cup? At least, the fage brand stuff that I have is.

Full fat yogurt is usually only 6g per 1/2 cup.

Both of those are almost spot-on for your extra 5g/day OWL food allowance.

I have tried some of these little Dannon yogurts and I like them--it is helpful to me personally that they are small servings. Will be on the lookout for the Greek one mentioned.

Re: Dannon Light and Fit Carb & Sugar Control.

I also put my first yogurt container back. It looked kind of scary with all those carbs. I have overcome my fear of yogurt carbs an am now eating my yogurt on a regular basis.

The things to look for are firstly whether any sugar has been added. There will always be natural sugar in yogurt. The second thing to look at is what portion they are listing. Is it for one cup, 1/2 cup or 1/4 cup?

And thirdly you have to watch portions. You cannot eat litres of this but if you eat a bit, you will be fine.
