    Re: Greek Yogurt Question :&lt

I finally found Fage Total yesterday at Foods of All Nations in Charlottesville. I paid $2.29 for a 7 ounce cup. I haven't tasted it, because I don't like yogurt, but I am going to make tzatziki sauce with it. I was going out to Whole Foods, but didn't bother after I found Fage there. I had an appointment at UVA yesterday and Foods of All Nations is almost right beside it and Whole Foods is way out on the by-pass. I have another appointment on Monday, so I will see if they have the Greek Gods brand.

My local Martin's store does carry Fage, but only the kind with fruit and low or non-fat. I thought that was strange. They had another brand of Greek, too, but same thing--all fruited and low or non-fat.

It's going to make a great sauce! And Sunny - it tastes NOTHING like the regular yogurts I've had. It is savory, versus sweet. Very different, and very good. Good luck with your sauce!

I went to Whole Foods on Monday and they didn't have Greek Gods brand--just another Greek sounding name with only low and no fat. I did get another 7 oz. Fage for $1.79, so it was a lot cheaper than Foods of all Nations. I had to ask for the full fat and he only had one box to a ton of the low fat stuff. Haven't used it yet, but probably will tomorrow.

It is the same in UK - 10 times as many low and no fat products as there are fullfat ones!!

If you can't find Greek yogurt, get some higher fat organic yogurt and some cheesecloth; put the cheesecloth in a strainer over a bowl, pour in the yogurt and leave in the fridge overnight. In the morning it will be very thick, and to me it almost tastes like cream cheese. (organic yogurts are generally less sour-tasting than regular ones). You will have to do a little math since the volume shrinks considerably after the liquid has drained out, but it is a pretty good approximation of Greek yogurt.
            cheers,
            Sue

                Re: Greek Yogurt Question :&lt

I finally tried the Fage Greek yogurt and it tastes nothing like the regular. The reason I have never liked yogurt is because it tastes like spoiled milk--what we called 'blink milk' growing up on a farm with our own milk cows. I tasted it before making the Greek sauce and it just tasted sour, which I like, and not like spoiled milk. The tzatziki sauce was awesome!
