  • Anyone have to skip multiple rungs?

    Hi Everyone,

I just started OWL, but I already know that I am going to have to skip the dairy, nuts (could try seeds), and berries(I think I could do watermelon) due to food allergies. Anyone else experience this?

If you have food allergies, it is best to skip the rung entirely.

Just an FYI, The berry rung includes honeydew melon and cantaloupe, but NOT watermelon. Watermelon is a very very very high sugar fruit and should be eaten with a lot of caution.

Look at the foods in a particular rung. If you are allergic to all the foods, then skip the rung. If you are allergic to some of the fruits, but not to others, you may choose to try out the non-allergic foods. For example, if you are allergic to wheat/gluten, that doesn't mean you have to skip the grains rung entirely, because rice and corn don't contain gluten and you might not have a problem with them. Similarly in the other fruit rung, you might be allergic to bananas, but that doesn't necessarily mean you are allergic to peaches and apples.

ooopppss! I didn't realize that, I am still waiting on my book to get here from amazon.com, I have the 1999 version of the book.

not2late: You are right, I have discovered over the past year what I can and cannot eat as far as foods go. I have been able to add some things back over time that I couldn't eat at all before.

I am so nervous about OWL for some reason. Not only am I coming off of TOM, but the scale hasn't moved and I am feeling so low right about now. I didn't really exercise that much, but did a lot of walking when I was out of town this weekend and maybe that is why. I want to give up, but instead, I wrote in my journal and I just said, no matter what, I will not give up, even if the scale is not moving. I am losing inches though!

Losing inches means you're losing weight. Don't be a slave to the scale!

Re: Anyone have to skip multiple rungs?

I've had to skip most rungs because of food intolerances and allergies. Some because they cause cravings and I have no control. I am doing just fine with the parts that I can have. I have learned to like a whole host of new foods or old favorites prepared a new way.
