  • Calorie intake to loose

I have calculated my BMR & RMR and these are the figures:

    BMR: 1,357
    RMR: 1,248

    Then it advises the following:

Sedentary: BMR: 1,628 and RMR: 1,498

Can somebody chime in and tell me if I should subtract 15%-20% or 300-500 from my BMR to figure out the calorie intake required for my body to loose?

Just need some input on the above.

    Thanks.

your BMR is the minimum number of calories you burn to sustain vital life functions while awake.

your normal daily activities should burn off alot more calories than your BMR amount each day, so I wouldnt try eating much less than that amount of calories a day myself. however doing atkins we dont really track calories as much as carbs. I do use the pc version of fitday now and I find im usually close to eating calorie counts very close to my BMR each day, but I burn off enough extra calories doing normal activities and work without extra exercising added, that I have a calorie deficit. over a one week period I will be burning off enough extra calories to lose about 3.2 lbs per week.

I am by no means an expert, but I have heard you dont want to starve yourself or go below 1500 calories a day or your metabolism will shut down and go into starvation mode and slow down and you wont be gaining anything by doing that.

I personally just try staying under 40 carbs per day myself and pay very little attention to the calorie count as a whole, that way im still burning my stored body fat for fuel rather than the carbs im eating.

good luck with your weight loss efforts, as we all want to be smaller healthier people.
