  • My first question

    I'm sure there will be many more, so I'll apologize now!!!


    I'm getting ready to move on to OWL but I'm a little confused about one thing. Do I add 5 carbs a day or a couple of times a week or what? I'm not quite getting that part. Also, is it ok to add basically the same thing? I would love asparagus so I'm thinking of just adding a can of asparagus every day as a snack, would that be ok?

    If the food is new to you (meaning you haven't eaten it during your Induction), then you add it every other day to see what it does to you. If it has no negative effects (no weight loss, cravings, etc.), then you can add it daily and see what happens. The foods on Rungs 2-9 are all "new" to you. But on Rung 1 they might not be.

    For example, if you've been eating broccoli during your Induction and haven't had any problems with it, you may add 5 net carbs of broccoli daily during your OWL. But let's say, you've never eaten green beans during Induction. To use it as an OWL food, you need to add it every other day, see what it does, then add it daily.

        Just wanted to say welcome to OWL! Megs explanation was wonderful. This week I've added 5 additional (veggie) net carbs to my daily total. It's amazing how many more veggies you can eat with that extra allowance. I can have another serving of broccoli...it's thrilling to me! I was confused at first and I read the book at least 6 times (no joke). If you're able to read all the stickys in this forum, it will be very helpful to you.
