  • Did it! Jumped to rung 2!

    Hi!
I wrote a message the other day about how I was nervous about going to the second OWL rung and it was one of the messages that disappeared in the upgrade. (In it I told the story about my pants falling off...luckily in my house and not at the store!--if you read it, that may jog your memory!) Anyway--I really appreciated the responses and they helped to put things into perspective for me and in the last few days I stepped up to the second rung!

I added in 1/2 cup of cottage cheese--yum! A very nice breakfast option for me! It is so nice to have something else to "go to" that doesn't need to be cooked or cut/washed/prepared! I had 1/2 cup two days ago and another 1/2 cup this morning.

So far, so good. No noticeable problems yet. In fact, today I had one of those mornings where I really felt smaller/skinnier as soon as I woke up. That is the best way to start a day, isn't it? There are two more servings in the container so I'll finish those off over the next 4 days and then try something else.

Thanks for all of the support and encouragement! Hope everyone has a GREAT holiday weekend!

I remember reading about the pants falling down and was wondering how you were doing.

I am glad to read that you are happily moving slowly up the carb ladder
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Thanks Elizellen! From reading many of your posts in various threads and the posts of other long-term members who have had enviable success stories I have learned that it really is very important to do OWL and do it slowly and correctly in order to have long-term success. It is always tempting to stick to induction because it feels safe or to rush up the OWL rungs/pick and choose from the rungs, but I have come to accept that this is going to be a long process and a new WOL and I really want to do it the right way!
So, thanks again for the response and for all the wisdom I have gained through your posts!

Thanks Nichole! You are so right--OWL does rock!

I'm sure I'll be a bit nervous each time I climb a rung--but it's great to know that I can look here for support!

          Have a great holiday weekend!

Re: Did it! Jumped to rung 2!

Still chugging along on Rung 2! Didn't seem to have any trouble from the cottage cheese (tried it x4). Yahoo! In fact...even my smaller jeans seem to be getting kind-of close to being too dangerous to wear out of the house (for fear of them falling off!)

So, Thursday I tried Fage yogurt (with just a little bit of Divinci's vanilla) for the first time....oh my goodness...it might be love! The only time I ate yogurt before this WOE/WOL was when I had a sore throat or when I was on antibiotics--it was OK, but not a favorite. But Fage is nothing like the conventional yogurt! I had some more this morning and haven't experienced any symptoms of blood sugar issues so far. I'll try it again a few times this week but am hoping it can be a regular thing for me! It would be awesome with some nuts and berries in it as I get to those rungs! For now I'm only going to buy the small cups of it (7 oz I think, 6 total carbs) until I know that I can be trusted to appropriately portion the larger container!

Just wanted to update, and thank everyone again for the encouragement!

Re: Did it! Jumped to rung 2!

I have never, ever liked yogurt in my life, but I tried the Fage and I really liked it. It tastes nothing like regular yogurt, which tastes like spoiled milk to me, so it was nice to find something new to add to my delicious legal Atkins foods. I just wish I could find it closer to home.

Congrats on your smaller pants getting loose!

I loved the dairy rung and my loss really did speed up during that rung. My other favorite rung was berries hmmmm. It sounds like you are doing great; keep up the good work.

Re: Did it! Jumped to rung 2!

Thanks for the replies Sunny and Quotidianlight (did i get that name right? not sure...sorry!)

I'm really loving the Fage yogurt! So delish!

So...I've tried out cottage cheese and yogurt now. I think next I'll try a little more heavy cream. I've had a tablespoon of it a few times over the past 2 months, but I think I'll see if I notice anything if I increase the amount a little. Can't wait to get up to the berry rung for some berries and cream!

Does anyone have any other dairy recommendations?

Thanks for all the support and encouragement!

Ricotta is wonderful, and can be sweet or savory. Mixed with a bit of cocoa and splenda, vanilla and splenda etc it's wonderful! Also, there are recipes for ricotta stuffed chicken etc that are very good.

Mascarpone if you've never had it is to die for...it's also amazing flavoured as a dessert (very high fat and cals..and very rich though).

                            Thanks for the suggestions Sadie!!

I think I will try marscapone and ricotta next. I didn't really like ricotta before, but don't want to "write it off" without trying it again.

Going to go look for some ideas/recipes for those two suggestions...
