  • low carb cereal??

I've heard some people mention on this board about low carb cereal. I'm curious what brand it is and what the carb counts are?

    Thanks

I haven't gotten to the grains rung yet, so no cereal for me. Atkins has a low carb cereal. There is also a low carb Special K and some other more commercial brand---the last time I read their labels, they contained grains AND sugar either in the form of molasses or brown sugar or as plain sugar and some hydrogenated fats too, iirc.

      Cereals

Atkins has three varieties. The Almond Crunch is 4g, the Blueberry and banana are 5g... I think that is for one cup.

There is also 3g KetoKrispies (like Rice krispies) and a few other brands and varieties out there, but you have to find them in specialty stores, not in your usual grocery store.

The Special K and other big name company cereals are "reduced carb"... not very low in carbs. I think Special K was around 12g or so, but don't quote me on that.

I like the Almond Crunch from Atkins... I don't often eat it by the bowl, I prefer to have the cereal sprinkled on top of a bowl of fruit with a little bit of cream to add some crunchy texture. Kinda like a reversal of the fruit on your cereal concept! haha

This one's good if you've made it to the grain rung. Someone posted it a few months ago, but I can't find the link. I had some this morning with berries and cream.

          CINNAMON HOT BREAKFAST CEREAL

Combine 1 cup ground flax seed, 1 cup ground almonds, 1/2 cup oat bran, 1 1/2 cups wheat bran, 1/2 cup whey protein powder, and 2 tsp cinamon.

To serve: combine 1/2 cup of mix with 3/4 cups water.

          Per serving: 152 calories, 8g fat, 13 g protein, 11 g carbohydrates, 7 g dietary fiber.

I enjoy the Keto flakes and crisps with un sweetened soy milk. I check the label for serving size and then try to cut it in half. Most of the Keto products are 3 carbs for 1/3 cup. I have tried the Total flakes but they are 8 carbs for 1/3 cup. Sometimes I add a few higher carb flakes to give the Keto a little more flavor.

TO switch it up, I add blueberries and or strawberries. If I don't have any, just a dab of SF jelly will do!

Mmmmmm.. I do only have the cerael about 3-4 days aweek, alternating with my eggs. It is quick and easy.
