  • Excited about starting OWL.. but have a few ?'s

So today is day 2 back on Induction and I am going to really make this work. Of the trillion times I have done Atkins, I NEVER moved onto OWL.. which is where I went wrong. Atkins is NOT about Induction... it's about making this a life change, and I can't do that if I don't move on.

Okay, so I have a few questions....

I am 169.2 this am and I want to be 120-130. At about what weight should I move onto OWL?

How long should I stay on each rung?

And how much should I expect my weight loss to slow as compaired to Induction? I have heard that many lose MORE on OWL, which I am praying will be the case for me. LOL

I know everyone is different so asking when my weight will slow down isn't a question you all can ask, that will come with time and experience

Thanks so much..I can't WAIT to join you all!!!!

If you read the stickies above I think will answer all the questions you asked. I just went through them as I am on day 3 of rung 1.

I would say definately move on to the rungs!

Stay on each rung for as long as there is new food there that you want to try. Some stay a week...some stay a month.

Yes...your weight will slow down in the rungs. There is no way you could continue to lose like the first week. However...that being said...yes it is still possible to lose 2 or 3 pounds in a week...and some weeks nothing. Mind you it will do the same in induction.

You hit the nail on the head. Atkins is NOT about induction. You MAY lose a little slower (or not) but you will have a greater chance of success...as you already figured out. The easy part is losing the weight...the hard part is learning to keep it off.

Welcome to OWL!!! Yes the stickies are very helpful as Elsie said. I have been OWLing since mid December and just made it to Rung 6. So I have on average spent a month on each rung. The first rung is more veggies and it is a good time to up the carb count.

Your weight should never be a determining factor in whether or not to move onto OWL. I, personally, think that the reason you have never been truly successful (which is getting to a goal weight) is that you stay on induction.

I think you should IMMEDIATELY move into OWL after two weeks, and then stay on the veggie rung for quite a while. Eat lots of veggies. Keep the cravings at bay for a long time. There are very few veggies on OWL rung 1 that cause cravings, but you'll be able to spot them very quickly. Then slowly move through the other rungs, testing your body and losing weight and having variety.

I did induction and then an extended induction for another week. I wanted to move up the rungs properly so here I am I am now on Rung 7 with 30ish pounds left until goal. I looooooooooooove OWL. I never feel deprived. I've only been spending a week or two on each rung and have been steadily losing 2.5 pounds a week. I think it's definitely a combination of high intensity exercise and Atkins. I was just able to enjoy a juicy pear with my lunch today. OWL ROCKS! It really does teach you how to eat properly.

i also love owl because it allows me to LIVE- go to dinner parties, etc. without stressing so much. during induction, it is hard because you are quite limited. also, this is a way of life, so begin incorporating it into your life!!
            good luck!
