I'd recommend DESIGNER Whey protein. You can fing it anywhere but you can get it cheaper on the internet. I use Yahoo search engine and find the cheapest for the 5 lb size and used to order 2 at a time. If memory serves me correctly it may have been around 50 bucks with the shipping. Tasty and broke down quick in your system. Contains 90 calories, 2 grams carbs and 18 grams protein per scoopful. Look it up and compare it to other's out there. Mixes well too. God Bless, Joe
Pardon my naivete, but why would someone on Atkins, who presumably eats large quantities of meat, need to add a protein powder? Aside from mixing it with water and holding your nose as it goes down the gullet, what other ways can you use it?

You are mistaken. Try the one above I mentioned. It taste excellent it is hard to beleive it is actually good for you without harming you. God Bless, Joe
I really don't consider myself to eat large qualities of meat. Yesterday...1 can of tuna and a serving of sloppy joe pie. It is a useful tool to help get to your 30% protein some days. It is also used in some baking recipes. And drinks like mocha cappacuino. Also, some people, not me, like to have a shake in the morning vs chewing food. To each their own.

I like it as an occasional meal replacement - especially now in the summer when it s hot. I use vanilla whey powder and make shakes out of them. I usually add cream, cocoa, coffee ice cubes.

I can't wait to try that, saw it on the boards a few days ago. I have to be careful with the cream. It has "stalled" me twice now.

I also use it to make shakes. I love having a nice cold shake after a hard workout at the gym. Especially now that its summer. I use nature's way zero carb isopure - it comes in many flavors and it has vitamins and supplements like l-glutamine in it which are really good for you. but there are plenty of other kinds that are good. Usually people here recommend using whey protein isolate or soy protein isolate. Just make sure that you are on the appropriate rung of OWL for the kind you choose. If you use whey protein that would be the dairy rung, soy protein would be legumes I believe. Enjoy!
Well...since this thread started I did buy some and have had one as part of my breakfast.
Dayna...I bought a Walmart brand of Whey Protein Isolate. Is yours an Isolate or just whey protein powder. I know that something was said once about the kinds of whey..so that could be the difference you are tasting.
Is anybody willing to share their protein drink recipe with exact measurement for us new to protein drinks people?
Here is mine..I make one serving of this...so half the recipe.
low carb cinnamon vanilla shake
Ingredients
2 cups of ice
1 cup of water
1/2 cup of heavy cream
1 tsp of vanilla extract
1 tsp of cinnamon
3 tsp of Splenda
2 scoops of vanilla whey protein powder

Sheila has some great shake recipes on her site. Here is one:
Sheila's Easy Breakfast Shake Serves 1
6 total carbs for entire recipe
Induction-friendly!
3-oz. cube cream cheese
½ cup Eggbeaters (pasteurized & safe) ¼ cup heavy cream
1 T DaVinci's or Atkins syrup - any flavor!
4 ice cubes
I don't really have a recipe I follow. I dump stuff in and see how it goes. But this would be an approximate guess:
2 scoops vanilla whey powder (I use Equate from Walmart it is plenty sweet so no extra sweeteners needed for my taste)
1/4 -1/2 cup cream
2 tbs cocoa powder
10 decaf ice cubes
1/4-1/2 cup decaf cold coffee
This is good on a hot day

I follow the directions on my giant container of whey protein. It says mix 1 heaping scoop with milk. I mix one heaping scoop with a 16oz glass of water. It just tastes like watered down chocolate milk. Done the vanilla too but it's less appetizing.
I typically drink them right after a workout, to ensure my muscles get the proper protein to rebuild any tears, and also to ensure I'm taking it at a time that I wont store the excess protein as fat.
