    Re: Yogurt

You should look for a yogurt that is natural (has live cultures in it) and no sugar added (or artificial sugar) or any other silly stuff added. You want one that is full fat - so avoid the ones that say lower fat or no fat.
Good ones are Greek Yogurt (like Fage) that is very nice and fatty. Here in Canada I can buy Balkan Yogurt. It is 6% fat and creamy stuff.

I usually make my own though. This is easy once you have some starter yogurt. All you need is starter and some whole milk.

    Enjoy your yogurt.

Liv, I make my own yogurt too! i am not on the dairy rung yet - but I am lookng forward to having some yummy HM yogurt. Are you using wole milk or splitting it with cream and how do you count the carbs in your homemade stuff? Right now i am jsut making 2% for the kids and not eating it - but I am thinking ahead

        Re: Yogurt

        Hi Erika,
I use whole milk (3.25%) - I add no cream. I used a Dana Carpender recipe (She wrote 500 low-carb recipes) when I started and she gave the count for a quarter cup (which is my serving size) as 150 calories, 8 fat, 4 carbs and 9 protein. So that is what I have plugged into my fitday. I hope that is right.

Thanks, I'll put that in my low carb recipe fliles. I LOVE FAGE and if I strain my homeade stuff it has the same beautiful texture - but I wonder what it does to the carb count since you are draining away a LOT of whey. I'll figure it out when i get there - thanks for the head start

The small 1 serving containers of FAGE Total 5% have exactly 5 net carbs so they are perfect for the dairy rung. Its delicious!

Fage Total with a few drops of Stevia make my heart flutter. I love Fage. I could seriously start a fanclub.

                Re: Yogurt

Another vote for FAGE. It's so rich and filling. When you get a little higher on the rungs, try it with pecans and berries. But for now, a dash of splenda or sf flavored syrup will do just fine.

                  Re: Yogurt

I bought some organic, full fat plain yogurt and strain it myself. They don't have Fage where I live. I love it!!!
