Dang, I having a really hard time eating 5 extra veggie carbs today. I know on paper it's just a serving of "that whole list" but I've found myself hyper busy with the girls today and not really cooking so I'm eating meats on salads. I'm not over eating any of the catagories and I'm eating the minimum veggies - but I feel like I am "pretending" to be on rung 1 today. I guess it will be interesting to see what weigh in brings this weekend. The first two days were great - but today feels like a low. Also, I think I reacted to onions. I ate them cooked and felt all sleepy and lethargic...like the life was sucked out of me. I am so frustrated by this. first tomato and now onion. That means garlic and leek are probably problematic as well and they are such culinary basics. I guess i am just frustrated today.

if time is a crunch for you (as it is for most of us!) make up little veggie bags with stuff like broccoli, peppers, celery and cauliflower for easy snacking! you can portion them out, and have a bunch in your fridge for a "grab and go" sort of thing.
i personally hate veggies but have found i actually eat them when they are already prepped and just waiting for me in the fridge.

      Great idea!

Find those veggies that pack the punch and the carbs you need to keep up.

About the onions: they do have a higher carb count because they do contain a natural starch, sugar (remember, they burn/brown well in pans because of the natural sugars). If you haven't had them during induction and you're just now adding them back in, you might indeed have a slight intolerance to them. If you have had them during induction but you're now being more aware of what veggies you can eat, chances are you might have that same intolerance to them.

Does that mean you'll always have that issue? Probably not. It just means that you might have to either try not eating them or find a combination of veggies/proteins that you can eat with the onions at the same time. You're doing a great job listening to your body....you'll find what veggies work and what don't.

If you're eating primarily salads or salad list veggies, you will have a hard time getting that additional 5 net carbs!

Try to eat the veggies on the "other" list because they have a higher carb content than the "Salad" list veg.

How did you eat those onions and tomatoes? Did you have them with a fat?

I ate the onions with a cheesesteak (homeade) so beef, oopsie, mushrooms and cheese (so yes there was fat)

and I ate the tomatos with olive oil and mozzarella and basil

            Re: screwing with OWL

My personal favourite for adding 5 net carbs without having to eat 13 extra cups of lettuce is to slice red/yellow peppers and saute them in butter to make a tasty garnish for meats.
According to fitday 1 cup of raw sliced red peppers has about 4 net carbs but cooks down to a smallish heap!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Pumpkin is another great way to get those extra veggie carbs. A half cup of canned pumpkin equals 4 net carbs. Make sure you check the can for ingredients & make sure you are getting just pumpkin & not the pumpkin pie mixture. My favorite is Libby's.

I put 2 Tbsp of cream cheese, 1 pkg of Splenda & a pinch of cinnamon in with the pumpkin. Microwave for 40 seconds & then mix up well. It is like eating a piece of pumpkin cheesecake~~~without the crust.

Libby's is my favorite brand (I'm not sure which one you used). I've tried the store brands in the area, but for some reason it's either Libby or make my own when pumpkins are in season---and that won't be long from now

I've never canned it----that would be interesting, but I didn't do well in Home-Ec, so I stick to what I know...lol..... I've frozen pumpkin after it's been cooked before. I just used it to make LC pumpkin filling (without the crust) mostly for the holidays. I prefer either fresh pumpkin or the canned pumpkin to eat for breakfast/snack, etc.---I'm picky/spoiled that way I guess
