  • What foods have you given up because they stall you?

I'm not officially in a stall (I lost 5 inches in the month of Feb.), but the scale is not budging. I'm not whining (really), I would just like to see the scale go down, I weigh too much.

My question is what legal foods have you given up because they have caused problems for you? I would just like to get some ideas of foods that I should drop to see if that would get the scale moving. I've already decided I can't deal with the nut rung, because I have no control over nuts. Darn it!

Five inches is awesome!!! :icondance :joy :icondance :joy :icondance Congratulations. The inches are much more important than what the scale says.

The only thing I've given up is bread. Low-carb bread gave me problems, and I found I didn't really like bread that much anymore, so I dropped it. I found that triscuits aren't too bad and replaced bread with them. I believe I could eat bread, but would just need to limit it to no more than once a week or once every two weeks.

I had a problem with cashews, so I found a mix that is almonds, macadamias, and cashews. When I want nuts, I eat those and then I am able to still enjoy my cashews.

I had a problem with grapes, so I found that I could eat them as part of a meal, just not by themselves.

    Best of luck to you!

Nurselady, you're creeping slowly because you are soooooooo close to goal. :joy :icondance Isn't that usually the case, the closer you are to goal, the slower the pounds come off?

There's 3 foods I've discovered so far that made me gain. Tuna, mayo and avocado.

Nuts, Including peanut butter, they don't stall me in themselves..but I have absolutely NO self control when eating them. I could eat a jar of peanut butter in one sitting LOL.

When I go up 2 or 3 lbs from an overindugent weekend (not cheats but just too much legal food!) I find that cutting out cheeses for a week tends to help get it off. I think cheese is another thing to watch your intake of, it's really easy to eat too much.

Besides those I've never had any foods that stall me just by having them..only those above and by having too much of them.

lisaaw -- Tuna!!! How horrible for you. I was also wondering if the mayo is doing me in. I dip my veggies in it. What fat do you use for your veggies if you don't eat mayo?

Sadie -- ditto for me on the nuts and peanut butter. No self control. Last night I just threw the last of them in the garbage. I was obsessing about eating them, I knew I would be in trouble, so I pitched them.

floydgirl - I'm not really lamenting over having to drop the tuna since it's never been one of my favorite foods. I like it, but don't love it. Quite a different story with the mayo though. I love it in/on just about everything. and it's very possible that it has been one of the main contributing factors to my obesity. I'm amazed that I only missed it for a few days and don't even think about it now, except to wonder exactly what it is in the mayo that hinders my weight loss.

I've been eating my veggies mostly in salads, stir fries, soups, stews or chili. My fats are coconut oil, peanut oil, corn oil, bacon grease or butter.

Cream is a proven staller for me -- and anything made with it, like butter, sour cream, certain cheese like brie. Every time I have something with cream in it, the scale is up the next day and it takes two weeks to come back down.

I love cream but the gain is not worth it. Gonna try to re-introduce it as an occasional treat during maintenence.

Two weeks to come back down after eating cream!!!! Holy Crap!!! And that includes butter, too! Egads :yikes I occasionally eat cream, but I eat butter on a daily basis.

How has everybody determined that these foods stall them? I assume you give up one food at a time and keep a close eye on the scale?

There is a wonderful butter substitute that I buy in a health food store, called Earth Balance. Tastes just like butter and it's made from healthy oils (it is margarine style in a tub) and contains NO transfats. That has been my lifesaver. I use it on just about everything.

I have not really had anything in particular that has stalled me but sometimes I catch myself going over the recommended serving size when I ear Peanut butter. I am with you Sadie, I could eat the whole jar in one sitting. When I am having a craving, I head for the PB.

Elsewise, I am slowing coming up on my goal but still have been losing inches all the while. Either way, I couldn't be happier!

Nuts, Pork Rinds and Atkin's Advantage Bars.

I can't control the nuts and they're so caloricly dense that the added calories blow it for me... plus the fact I always wind up binging on them. Once I open the jar... they're history.

I think with the pork rinds it's the concentration of salt that makes me retain fluids.

The bars.... well, much has been written about them, but sometimes I just want something that reminds me of "candy"

I avoided all of the above this week and had a visit from the "wooshy fairy" The scale finally hit 150!! Yippee!!!
