Re: turnips
Yes. They are on induction list so you can eat them rung one. (I love them baked like fries in the oven)
(Turnip is the whitish fleshed one. The yellow fleshed vegetable is rutabaga and it is not allowed till the starch rung. It took me a while to figure this out as things often seems to be labelled wrong in the stores.)

Re: turnips
Ditto to what liv said.
I like a 50-50 combo cauliflower and turnip mix for the faux mashed potatoes. I think the turnips give the cauliflower a more "earthy" taste, so it makes it a better potato substitute.
You can also cut them into fries, rub them with oil, sprinkle salt and pepper, and bake them in the oven for turnip fries. They don't taste like potatoes, but they're a good change of pace.~Megs~

Re: turnips
Oh I know. I enjoyed rutabaga for quite a while before I even knew what I was eating. They were all bunched up with different veggies in the store so I figured they were ok. Then one day I looked at my grocery list and say the name and didn't remember seeing them on the veggie list. So I cut them out immediately. But they were yummyOriginally posted by liv View PostYes. Re: turnips
Turnips are the answer to a potato-less low carb diet. I use them in every instance where I would use potato. My family cannot tell my fauxtato salad made with turnips from my real potato salad. I recently shredded equal amounts of raw turnip and cabbage for slaw, and it was the best I have ever made.
The one difference I have found is I can now eat a serving and be satisfied without clearing the whole bowl. I am a potato salad/macaroni salad freak and had no control when made with potatoes and macaroni. I have been making macaphony salad with steamed, firm summer squash in place of the macaroni and it is delicious without making me want to eat the whole bowl in one sitting.
