It's common knowledge that peanuts are technically legumes. But, with the peanut being generally considered a "nut" by the hoi polloi, Dr. Atkins went with that classification, though some purists leave peanuts alone until Rung 6.

In culinary terms, a nut is any large seed which is used in food and comes from a shell.

Thanks for your response, Julie. I thought that's what I understood.

I just was actually trying to delet my post just now because I felt kind of stupid asking it.

I hope the 20somethings that read the post didn't think it was a bad post. Sorry if it confused anyone.

It *is* kind of interesting, Lisa, especially since a lot of people have issues with peanuts, and it would probably be wiser to keep them on Rung 6.

I thought you asked a good question Lisa. People seem to saying two things about peanuts and it is nice to have a clarification.
While we are discussing technical stuff aren't tomatoes and peppers technically fruits? I am just trying to confuse the issue further.

              Re: Peanuts.....get your peanuts...when???

              OMG!
I just posted this on another thread regarding peanuts as well...
I was trucking along during induction, no fluctuations, steady losses.
Then when the time cam to add nuts, I had one tablespoon of peanut butter
two days in a row. No more, no less, and wham!!! 2.5-3 lbs. up like that!!
My normally clear complexion broke out as well and I'm wasn't even close to that TOM.
I just went back to strict induction to try and recoop my losses!
              So frustrating.
But, I was determined to find out what was going on...
turns out, peanuts stimulates estrogen production in certain people
(I am estrogen dominant). Bingo, we all know what a surge of hormones can do to women!
So, now I know. I have to just say no to nuts.
              Hope this helps...

I was wondering why my breasts began to swell after polishing off that jar of peanut butter last week!

Kidding aside, I did get a jar of Smucker's natural peanut butter (INGREDIENTS: peanuts, salt) last week to attempt adding back in a little of my favorite food. Not sure if peanuts stall me or just the fact that I can't stick to a 2 Tbsp. serving! I really did polish off a whole jar in about 8 days.

No more peanut butter except for a rare treat!

I guess I am the fortunate one... I don't care for peanut butter. And peanuts are a take or leave sort of thing. I like almonds and pecans and macadamias....
