  • Weeks inbetween rungs?

I know the time frame is different for each person and how long they've spent on induction and the individual rungs, but I'm stuck at what to do next and wonderd how many weeks did you spend on each OWL rung.

What worked going through the rungs for you? One week, two, or even three?

So far I'm going along at 1 week in between and wondering if I should be now be doing 2 weeks in between (or three) as I near what I like to call "the other side" of the OWL ladder (So far I've been losing 1 to 2 pounds a week on average). Other side meaning, it's kind of like getting closer to foods that I use to eat on a daily basis before restarting...apples, grapefruits, starchy veggies, whole grains, etc.

    Thanks!

    Re: Weeks inbetween rungs?

I have been on Atkins since November and am on rung 6 so I have on average spent over a month on each. I am losing slow now so it takes some time to get comfortable on each rung.

It don't think I have found any food that stalled me but I have come a across a couple that gave a bit of a sugar rush - so I know to limit those

How many carbs are you up to now Lisa?
You are doing so well BTW

You can spend as much time as you want! The minimum is 1 week. I spent alot of time on Rung 1, because I reintroduced plenty of those veggies plus low carb leafy green veggies that weren't on Induction list, like some Asian veggies and stuff like watercress and seaweed (sushi roll wrappers, etc.)

Thanks for your input, Liv and Megs!

Liv, this week I'm at a 40-45 carb limit and I rarely hit 45. I'm nervous about going up another 5 carbs, but I think in the long run I need to try to do it so that I know what I'm up against and what I can or cannot handle.

Megs, you win the award for trying things I like just reading about---sea weed, very interesting and different for sure! There's seems to be so many more veggies available now on the market than there was even 8 years ago, or maybe it's my imagination.

Like you, Liv, I don't think I've found foods yet that stall me, but I'm thinking that I have to be very consistant with measuring legumes and keeping very close track of what I eat that mixes with them---like making chili the other day (oh gosh, that was good and I wanted more than my little serving).

I still haven't decided whether to go up to rung 7 for other fruits or just stick to one more week of legumes. I just added peanuts back in, so maybe I'll go one more week to see how those are, and hope I can remain in controll with those. I think PMS is lurking around close by, so maybe one more week of being on rung 6 will be necessary...if not required to get through TOM .

Thanks again for your replies..they've got me thinking

I had chili yesterday as well. Carbs sure adds up quicly - not only the beans but the tomato is carby. But yes is was lovely. It is nice to be able to eat old favorites like and to learn how to modify them for sustainable eating.

If you introduced peanuts just now I would wait. Did you try Soy flour yet? (I know you said soy was not for you - so I am not sure if you decided to try to bake with some) I have yet to try it. But as soon as I locate some (I have not hit the health food stores yet) I will try it and when that is over I will try to work in some of the fruits.

Gosh, I know, those carbs add up quickly. But it's soooo good and such a great change

You're right, Liv, about the peanuts---I decided this morning that I'll stay at legumes rung one more week since I introduced the peanuts. That's a really good idea to work through one week at a time with the different types of legumes. It makes sense all the way around. I haven't added soy yet--nor have I bought any, either. That might be something to try again making pancakes or whatever---when I can eat peanutbutter to smoother out the taste .

Golly, Liv, you're so close to your goal---you've really worked the OWL ladder like a pro!
