  • I'm going to take the plunge!

I have been considering moving onto OWL but to be quite honest I'm scared stiff. I feel absolutely fine on induction and feel I could do this (almost) forever. The thing is I absolutely love veg and have been looking forward to be able to increase my daily limit. I said that I would move forward when I had dropped half my weight, well, I lost another three pounds this week (Yay!) and have now lost a quarter of my intended total loss, since it's a landmark so to speak, I think it may be time. Not2Late also pointed this out to me in another thread.

So I need to increase my carb limit to about 22 carbs (I average around 17 at the moment) and do this by eating the same veg I eat now and also introducing a new vegetable three times a week for the first week. Am I getting this right? Also, I am wary of adding onions or tomatoes as I think they slow me down. I have set my mind to induction phase and have not cheated once, this feels a little like learning a new diet. I'm a little slow on the uptake of things and am not wary about not losing, just not doing it right.

    Thanks guys :hug

OWL may seem scary, but once you jump into it I think you'll find that you really enjoy it. All the additional food choices are great! The extra veggies are very important too.

You've got the right idea. Add the extra veggies and see how it affect you.

    Best of luck to you!

      Thanks Elleth!

I am very happy with the veg you can have on induction, as I mentioned I will still leave tomatoes and onions for a bit but they're really the only veg I would want to add. I just suddenly realised, I'm not too sure what new veg I'm going to introduce :confused

While I consider myself a big veg eater, I guess I have been limiting myself. I guess I could add avocado as I haven't had any on induction. . hhmmmmm.

That's correct for net carbs of spinach. I verified it from multiple sources. You'd sure have to eat a lot to get five net carbs!

Makes you wonder why it's limited to only a cup (raw) on induction. Guess they just have to clump everyone together..but a cup of raw spinach is like one bite cooked, and from the looks of thing is only about 0.1 carb!

I know that scared, top-of-the-rollercoaster-hill-looking-down feeling of making the jump into OWL...but remember, you can take as much time on each of the rungs as you want.

So if you go to the Veggies rung/25 net carbs, you can hang out at that level for two weeks or a month (maybe trying new veggies in the later weeks, but keeping your carb count at 25), then move up to 30 carbs and the Dairy rung, and stay there for a few more weeks, and so on.

I didn't figure that out the first couple of read-throughs of DANDR (just skipped over that part, I guess), but now am re-doing the rungs, sloooowly.

Just remember, you can do it! Sounds like you're already paying attention to foods that are triggers or stallers for you, and that's great, that's just what you need to do in OWL.

Thanks. I know this is the way we're meant to do it but it's not until you typed it out for me that my anxiety lifted.
