  • Went Crazy

I blew it big time today, starting off with 4 chocolate donut holes this morning at church and I've been on an out-of-control binge all day. Ok, so I had 2 weeks of Induction under my belt and this was my first week on rung 1. What should I do (when I wake up from my sugar coma), go back to Induction, continue with rung 1, or what?

Go back down to up to 20g carb a day to get back into ketosis for a two to three days, then carry on with your extra veges. If it was a vege that triggered the binge then drop it, but my guess it was just a blow out regardless

Most important thing now is for you to get back on plan straight away, thinking one more day off plan won't hurt is the best way to end up back where you started, so good on you for fronting up and getting back on the wagon.

yep next bite in your mouth needs to be Atkins low carb and back on plan!

Depending on your body and your metabolismyou might be in ketosis tomorrow as you didn't say how many carbs you actually had if you are stay were you were this morning it not back to your induction level carbs what ever you ate your induction at.

drink lots of water and hold tight you can do this if you want it bad enough. just think about all those pounds you just lost being glued back on your butt or whereever your problem area is.

I just totalled my carbs for the day.........right at 400, all sugar carbs too! Not one single healthy carb in the whole evil bunch so I'm sure it will be several days, maybe longer, before I'm back in ketosis. Even with the strict eating in Induction it took awhile to register anything on the strips and then it was just trace or small. I've only registered "moderate" once since I started Atkins.

The only thing I can blame today's insanity on is the ground flax I added to my evening meal last night. I've not even been tempted to cheat before this.

Going on Atkin's is turning out to be a real eye opener for me. In 3 weeks, I've discovered 4 food intolerances. Tuna, mayo, avocado and now flax.

I feel like a slug right now. I'm so tired, it's an effort to even move but my heart is racing and I'm feeling extremely hyper on the inside. Weird feeling being wired up on sugar after 3 weeks of abstinence! I'm going to drink extra water as you suggested, 2big, to help clear my system and I'm thinking maybe some added exercise might help speed up the process? And yes, I know you're right loonatika.....I need to get right back on plan and not allow my "all or nothing mentality" to keep me off track another day or two.

no before you had a storehouse in you of glycogen wheic you don't right now so not all those carbs will get in and stay in as sugar you will see. one or 2 days and you will have Mr Ketosis going again.

Yes exercise will help you burn off those carbs faster

I'm still paying for Sunday's fiasco! Monday my weight was up 4 lbs. Tuesday morning the scales were showing an additional 3 lb. gain. That puts me 1 lb. above the weight at which I first started. I'm eating right and staying below 20 carbs but still not back in ketosis yet. Maybe tomorrow (crossing fingers).

Just curious.....is there anything I can do if I run into another food that triggers uncontrolable cravings like the flax did? I read something about L-Glutamine stopping sweet cravings. I believe Dr. Atkin's mentioned it in DANDR but I haven't been able to relocate it. Does anyone know how quickly it works and how much to take and how often? Or any other suggestions on stopping a craving quickly? I'd like to avoid going through this again, if possible. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

              Hi,

I am a sweet-aholic myself, and I tried the L-Glutamine and L-Carnitine and it REALLY helped. Within 48 hours I had no sugar cravings at all.

              Give it a try!

eating a very high fat food immediately will squealch the craving too.

The 400 carbs is only 1200 cals you have long since burned them off. is TOM in the picture?

I swear by L-Glutamine!! :nod Although I don't have huge sweet cravings, I do get them occassionally. L-Glutamine is a life-saver for that.

I take 1500-2000 mg/day. It also diminishes cravings for alcohol, which I also appreciate because I love my glass of white wine at night. Even though I'm not suppose to have wine until the alcohol rung, that has been my only cheat since restarting in January. However, I can't drink more than a few oz because it doesn't taste as good.

WalMart carries it (that's where I have found mine). Also if you want to, check out puritan.com or vitacost.com. Ordering vitamins from them can save you a lot but you do have to order in bulk to get the savings.

I'm going to try that too. The L-Glutamine is really pricey but worth it.

I'm a little confused. Doesn't 400 carbs x 4 = 1600 calories? As of Thursday evening, I still was not back in ketosis, ran out of stix so I don't know about yesterday or today.

Yesterday my weight was finally down to 210 so I updated my stats last night with hopeful expectations that I'd get up this morning weighing 209. Well, I'm still at 210 today so maybe tomorrow morning I'll be back to where I was when I got derailed.

I'm armed with L-Glutamine now and have made a reminder note about eating fat to stop a sugar craving. Thanks!

I decided to move on to another rung this week, skipped over dairy and nuts, and went to berries. I'm just not up to struggling with portion control right now, physically or psychologically, with some of the foods in those 2 groups that I love way too much.

Hi Lisa - sorry you fell into the carb-pit so drastically.

The mention of L-glutamine is in the supplement section of Chapter 11.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
