  • Moving up....with a little fear... HELP?

I'm moving on to OWL today and I'm SO nervous! I've been at a static weight for about two weeks now and have been reading how moving up can help to change that. So hopefully that is right. I've only been eating about 10-14 carbs daily so adding will be slow at first I guess.
I may already have been at Rung 1 instead of Extended Induction though because although I don't always get my 2 cups veggies in, I MAY be improperly measuring my broccoli and cauliflower so maybe I'm getting my 5 net carb increments of those already?

So how long should I weight before worrying about not seeing the scale start to budge? I mean, if I don't see a a loss, it will make it super hard to determine my CCCL, right? I won't know when to stop adding 5 carb increments if the weight loss doesn't pick up.

I guess I should relax, right? Deal with that later. It's a new day. So maybe just add a couple more veggies in the next week and move on to Dairy Rung?

    Thoughts, advice...support...encouragement?

    It's ALL WELCOME!

Just going to throw some ideas at ya. Maybe dedicate yourself to making sure you get all your veggies in this week. Make sure you are eating at or above your BMR..just in case your 'stall' is from not eating enough. use fitday this week to see if your percentages look close to 5%carbs/65%fat/30%protein. Those are ideal induction percentages...and eating at or above your BMR...and as you climb the rungs the fat goes down a little bit and the carb % goes up a little bit...just a bit as you are only adding 5 carbs a week. The protein goal is the same at 30%. Of course not everyone is going to get the ideal everyday but even if you average it out for the week you do want to get close to those numbers. For instance 2%carb/85%fat/13%protein would alert you that maybe that is the problem.

I would keep good track this week...see how things are at the end of the week and go from there. Good luck!!!

Thank you so much, Elsie. All great ideas. I haven't gotten the hang of fitday yet...and I eat so many recipes that I have found that I don't really know how to do that on fitday...do you just input the ingredients?

I have never seen this "fitday" you are talking about. Heck I didn't know we had to keep up with anything other than carbs! Boo Hoo. I thought this was gonna be easy.
And I'm REALLY wanting a bowl of cereal!

Well, I'm so confused because fitday lists some of the carb amounts differently than some of the other carb counters I have found. *sigh* Like 2 scrambled eggs on there show 2.3 carbs but on lowcarbfriends.com, it shows 1.3 carbs. And it's that way on a few things so it can be quite confusing. But Fitday, so you know, let's you input everything you eat by amount and it calculates all the carbs for you and also breaks down what you eat by ratio so you know that you are eating in the correct percentages according to what Dr. Atkins prescribed. It is important. I am a BIT high on carbs for today and a smidge low on protein but otherwise, I'm doing okay...today but I bet I've been high on fat in the past! lol

This is my first day doing fitday so we'll see how it goes.

Fitday was confusing to me too. I was way under estimating my broccoli and cauliflower (don't think I will have them again for a while). But my totals were Fat 57% Carbs 4% Protein 39%.

I will have to check the book to see if these are okay. I can't remember.

Fitday shows you total carbs not net carbs. To see the nutrition info click on the name and then minus the fiber from the total carb count.

Fitday also sometime assumes that you add stuff to these compound meals. It would not surprise me if it is assumed that you add some milk to your scrambled eggs - this may be why the carb count comes out like that. I prefer just to add the raw eggs - more accurate that way.

I don't think Fitday is showing as many carbs as it should. I was already up to 18 and it was only showing 11. Their carb count doesn't match Dr. A's. So which should we believe.
I would love to be able to eat more, trust me!

I do as Liv does. Enter the eggs as raw...and then add whatever you are using to cook them...ie oil or butter. You get a closer count that way. Also you can add your own specialty food items and there by take the counts off the label of what you are eating. It really helps to give you an idea. Is it perfect..no...but it is still useful. The percentages are even a bit off since we are counting the carbs after we deduct the fiber so don't forget to do that so you know when you can add a bit more stuff. Stick to it and it gets easier.

Re: Moving up....with a little fear... HELP?

On this fitday discussion .... they seemed to have updated their software, so the NET CARBS listing went away. Did anyone else see this? So I looked around to see if I could turn that listing back on to no avail. In the old version there was a bull's-eye icon that led to the choice of how you want info listed. It was showing total and net carbs for me before. I was using this tool closely for weeks, then went away from it, then went back and it was different.... Help?

WHEW!! Thank you! That really clears things up for me, ladies! And I have figured out how to do the recipe things except for the protein and calories part when it's recipes I've gotten elsewhere that doesn't do it for me, but hey, it's a rough estimate for those things and at least I have the CARBS right! lol

I'm learning, I'm learning. It is hard though to figure up the carb percentage when you have to subtract the fiber...when you eat alot of high fiber veggies because it does artificially inflate your carb %...when you eat jicama, etc. LOL

                        again, thank you!

My husband will be glad to get a CLEAR answer on how to count his eggs now...he's had THREE answers in two days!

Hmmm...I just always looked at the carbs and then subtracted the fiber. They do have a support button there. So maybe you could ask there or maybe that is part of the perk of buying it. Let us know how it works out.
