OK, after jumping on the Atkins wagon, I had amazing initial weight losses in Induction. (17 pounds in 2.5 weeks) Went on vacation, gained it back and then some. :anger
Decided to get back on Atkins, & I was browsing weight lifting boards at the same time, & fell into the trap of "Atkins makes you lose too much muscle." They had me believing that 10 pounds of the initial 17 was water, 5 was muscle and 2 were fat. :confused
Big on weight training & strength programs, I got scared & went from Atkins to a OWL type program, where I currently am. I am eating 1200-1800 calories a day of lean meats, onions, spinach, asparagus, broccoli, green beans, bell peppers, shrimp, salmon, tuna, 1% milk, oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat bread/tortillas, apples, oranges, 4 diff. kinds of berries, and occasionally some peanuts or natty PB. That being said, I weight train 3 days a week, with HIIT cardio 3 days a week.
"What's your point?" you're thinking, right? Well, after eating this lifestyle, & reading much of the bodybuilders points on Atkins, I realized that most of them haven't got a clue. They're all spouting information based on opinions. The catalyst for me, was when I asked in a "weight loss forum" of a bodybuilding site about Atkins, the responses were that it was unrealistic to never consume carbs the rest of your life, that meat, cheese & butter is fattening, that veggies are too important to cut out, etc., etc. All the ignorant myths perpetuated by misinformed people who call Atkineers lazy, yet obviously are too lazy themselves to become educated on the subject before putting their worthless 2 cents in. So..........here I am again. But my question is - since I have been eating the normal stuff you're allowed on Atkins in OWL, should I just continue, or do I need to restart Induction & start all over? I am losing at about 2.5 pounds a week, but no initial Induction whooshee. And it sure would be nice to have that 17 pounds gone before I slow down to the 2.5 pounds a week. Or, should I just continue what I'm doing? Advice, please! I know there's no guarantee to lose the 17 pounds again, as it was a blessing, but wow! I'm leaning towards doing a modified Induction - just a 1 week Induction and seeing if I lose any weight at a faster rate than 2.5 pounds a week. But I also think what I'm doing is working, albeit not exactly Atkins. Sooooooooooo.................?
