  • First time in OWL

So, I inductioned my way down from 196 to 155 or so a couple of years ago. Fell off the wagon, tried counting calories, quit eating meat (I know, how very UN-Atkins of me!), managed to keep my weight between 150-155 until this year, when I moved to Georgia and began eating a super healthy diet of beer and cake.

So, about a month ago (it'll be a month tomorrow, to be exact), when I realized I'd gained back up to 168lbs, I decided to get back on the Atkins train. I'm down to 154, it's slower this time around (but I was also almost 30lb lighter when I started this time), and I'm pretty happy with losing 14lbs in a month.

This time, I decided to do it right and not just stay in induction forever. I moved on to OWL this week and I am having a really hard time of it. I am on the veggie rung and I am having a super hard time getting my carbs up to 25g per day. Yesterday I ate 27g carbs total, but 9g of fiber, so net carbs were only 18. I am eating veggies with every meal (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and still cannot seem to get my net carbs up to 25g. HELP!!

Should I just hover around 20 like I am now and move up to 25g when I start the dairy rung? Or should I stay on this rung until I can manage to eat enough veggies to get 25g per day?

How many carbs were you eating on induction? If you were only eating 10 to 15 then i would say that you are doing 5 more and it would probably be ok to move on to rung 2. I think you are just supposed to up it 5 from where you were during induction.

Hmm... I probably hovered around 15 in induction. Some days more, some days less, but I probably averaged 15... Thanks.

You probably need to choose more veggies that are carb heavy. I love onions - so I can get up in veggie carbs quick. Pumkin is carby - so is spaghetti squash that I have been eating the last few days. (it is very yummy with tomato sauce - another carby thing) Actually making sauce with peppers is another way to get those carbs up quick. Or a favourite of mine: Soup. I making a cauliflower based cream soup today. Another thing I like is jicama - I eat it raw -
Or turnips - I love turnips baked in the oven with some oil, salt and pepper.

You're right, I do need to include carbier veggies. I eat a lot of green veggies.

I guess my thing is that I am not hungry... which is a blessing and a curse, you know. I eat, I'm not hungry, and I don't see how I can shove another 5g carbs down my gullet! I think it will be easier once I move up the rungs, honestly, because 5g of veggies (especially green ones) is a LOT.

I just ran averages, and I was only averaging 13g carb per day when I was on induction, and since starting OWL this week I am averaging 20g carb per day. Which is more than a 5g increase, but at least I know I am definitely getting more veggie carbs in there.
