I am currently at legumes and ready to move up the rungs some more. So far I haven't ran into too many issues and I'm not very resistant. That said, I know the sweeter fruits and starchy veggies are just going to set off massive cravings that I really don't want to bother with right now. Those two groups have always been binge foods for me. I would just stay where I am at but I need to get to grains for a bunch of reasons. Staying away from grains was fine without too many issues until I started dating and cooking for my boyfriend. Culturally it is just difficult and while I have only eaten them twice and managed to control my portions, I would like to do this the legal way. If I know that I don't want to touch the other fruits and starchy veggies until maintenance, can I move to the grain rung. I really want to test this stuff out and have a better idea of my reactions for those times I get stuck at his mom's or friends' table? I would just decline the food but that would cause a loooooooot of problems *sighs*

Re: Question about rung order
I'm a starchy carb addict. My carbs of choice are potatoes, rice, and pasta. So, I was very hesistant to try out the starchy vegetables. But I did anyway, and found that carrots, beets, rutabagas, yams/sweet potatoes, and other root veggies, didn't cause me to binge. And potatoes....well, I tried them and frankly, they didn't taste as good as I had remembered them. Ditto for rice, when I got to the grains rung. Pasta and other wheat-based foods made my nose run and my asthma act up, so I avoided it.
So I would suggest that you try out the rungs---being very careful to stick to the 5 net carb limits. And see what happens.

Re: Question about rung order
I'm so frustrated. I don't have cravings or even really want starchy veggies or fruits. He doesn't even eat them and it's so easy to just not even have them around. Forcing myself to eat them just so I can go through a rung I am having to deal with daily is just... *grumbles*

Re: Question about rung order
Well, if you really want to skip those rungs, go right ahead. And save them for pre-maintenance.~Megs~

Re: Question about rung order
I've always heard if it is a rung that you don't intend to eat or drink from (like alcohol) you are free to skip it. But just don't throw that item in willy nilly just because you have moved above it. If you later want to add it you need to introduce it just like you would have the first time around to find how your body reacts to different things.1st Goal ~ 199 Onderland -Met 3/29/10
