  • Vegetarian or no red meat Atkins?

Now that I've lost the worst part of my weight, I would like to move more towards cutting out meat from my life, except for fish and eggs. I have already cut out red meat for the past few months, only eating chicken, fish and eggs and have felt quite comfortable with my slower loss. Is there anyone who is also not eating red meat or has gone veggie altogether?

I do this for animal cruelty reasons, if you are curious. It's not as hidden here, I get to see the pigs trucking by in tiny, cruel cages, and I don't want to contribute to it anymore.

Yes, there are others who follow a vegetarian Atkins lifestyle.

Here are links to forums that specifically address the issue:

I eat more poultry, fish and seafood than I do red meat. It's perfectly fine because no where does it say "You MUST eat red meat on Atkins".

The only thing you have to remember is that poultry, fish and seafood are relatively lower in fat than the red meats, so you need to add fat back into your diet with oil based or butter based sauces, dips etc.

If you want to use the vegan protein subs, like tofu, seitan, etc. You have to be mindful of the carbs and the serving size. I found a tofu that had 1 gram carb and 1 gram fiber per serving. Looked like it was 0 net carbs right? Wrong, I plugged the nutritional info into a hidden carb calculator and the tofu was hiding 2 carbs. So be careful with these items because they seem to be geared more towards the low fat people than they do to low carbers.
