I just started owl yesterday. My body has been at a high level of ketosis for about 12 days now. I was just wondering when you begin to start the rungs and incorporate more carbs into your diet, are you supposed to merge out of ketosis....or are you supposed to stay in ketosis...how long in the diet? forever ....a few weeks?

Re: ketosis in OWL?
There's a sentence or two in the book, where Dr. Atkins writes that the ketostix might stop registering when you begin eating 50 or more net carbs daily.Originally posted by ashleykonline View PostI just started owl yesterday. But a ketogenic diet is defined as one containing less than 100 grams carbohydrates daily. So as long as you are eating at or below 100 grams, you are still technically producing ketones.
Now, I met some nutritionists who do ketogenic diets for children with seizures. They said that after 6 months of being on a ketogenic diet (no necessarily Atkins), the children stop registering ketones on their ketosticks. No one knows why this happens----could be that their bodies are using the ketones for energy so there isn't anything left to pee out, but no one knows for sure.~Megs~
