  • traveling and net carbs question

I'm going to be traveling for a couple days, and it will be very hard to prepare all my own food and measure it. I'm thinking about just trying to stick to eating only foods allowed on Induction and not worrying so much about keeping track of net carbs. I don't plan to go crazy with eating or anything, I'd just rather not try to keep track. And it will only be for 2 days. (I'm currently on OWL rung one with just more Induction veggies and up to 20 net carbs)

I'm wondering how much doing this will throw me off? Is it likely I would still stay in ketosis and not have a hard adjustment to getting back in weight loss mode?

When I travel, or know I have lots of temptations, I buy some beef sticks from a local grocer that tast great and there is only 1 carb per stick. I also suggest some hard boiled eggs. Hopefully you have a small cooler that you can use.

If you still are choosing within the 'parameters,' it likely won't throw you at all. I have plenty of days I don't count my carbs. I just eat what is on the lists, get my fats, shoot for the correct amount of veggies, and it all goes fine. Once you have done it for a good few days, you pretty much know what you can eat.

Since you're still on OWL Rung 1, you can eat Induction style and still allow yourself the 5 net carbs of Induction veggies.

When I began OWL, I had to go on a 3 day work related workshop thing in another city. I packed a cooler with a dozen hard boiled eggs, veggies (whole peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc.), and some cheese. That was my emergency food. The workshop program provided breakfast and lunch. I was able to cobble out breakfast because they had eggs and bacon daily, in addition to the usual continental breakfast. For lunch, they had cold cuts, other sandwich fixings, and salad. For dinner, I would order a grilled chicken breast or steak and have that along with a cooked veg. And if I needed a snack, I had the food in my cooler.

No one can really say if you'll do damage not eating on plan because you haven't found your CCLL yet. So your CCLL could be as low as 25 or as high as 100. If your CCLL is 25 and you eat above it, you may not lose weight and you may gain weight. But if your CCLL is 100, then as long as you don't exceed the 100 net carbs, you will probably still lose weight.

THanks guys! I'm about to hit the raod. I've packed a bit of food to take along, ad I'm going to do my best to stay on the plan without worrying too much about it.

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: traveling and net carbs question

Well, I'm back. I feel good that I didn't eat any foods that are simply not allowed. But I did eat sausage patties and hot dog (without bun). Since I ate them out, I'm assuming they may have had some sugar or prohibited sweetener in them. But I think that given the food available, I made pretty good choices.

On the down side, I weigh 0.6 pounds more than before I left on the trip. However, I'm still down by 1.8 for the week, so I'm going to try and regroup today and get back on strictly following the plan. Though I have to admit, I feel like letting myself slide further off of it and getting a coffe and pastry for breakfast - but I'm telling myself it is important to get right back on track now before I have done any real damage.

You're down 1.8 pounds that's great! The 0.6 pounds might be due to water retention, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

.06 weight can be a number of things so don't get down on that. Increase your water intake and go for a nice walk today. The number on the scale is not the whole story.
