On Nov 5 2008 I will have been on Atkins for 3 months, So far I have lost 50 lbs, Which I feel over all is pretty dang good. However I know the lbs are just going to slow down which really scares me. I am looking for some good exercising tips. I really Need To speed up my weight loss and Tone more than anything. I was hoping someone could help me out, I want to continue to loose, I do not have a membership to a gym and I was trying to keep from spending extra money at a gym. If anyone could help me with some good at home exercise that would be great. Thank you

Re: At Home Exercise Tips Needed
Wow 50lb in 3 months and you want to speed it up? You'll just wither down to nothing before Christmas
I am not sure exercise will make you lose faster. It may improve metabolism and as you get closer to your goal that may make for a difference. You don't just want to lose your muscles - you want to lose your fat - exercise protects your muscles while you lose your fat. So when you get thin you have a good metabolism and it will be easier to stay thin. Exercise helps with toning and with health generally so great that you want to do it.
It took me some months on the diet before I started to think about exercise too. I exercise almost daily now - but I do not have a gym membership either.
*Cardio
You need some walking or running or biking (dancing - aerobics) for cardio exercise. It is great to do cardio 3-4 times a week. I love walking . It is a great way to get going on exercise. I run now but walking is still up there among my favourite things to do.
I also have some walking in-door tapes (Walk Away the Pounds tapes are great). I do some tae-bo or simple aerobic tapes once in a while.
*Strength (weights)
I do push-ups and squats and abs for strength training. You can do those at home. We have monthly challenges for those here at ADBB.
I also work out with weights . Bought some dumbbells (started with 1 lb - not up to 13). There are many internet pages that teaches you how to do these exercises. I also borrowed books and videos from the library to help me develop a routine.
*flexibility and core exercises.
This is my recent fascination. I have borrowed tapes from the library for pilates , yoga and stretching to work in this area. I love to do stretching after my running or walking.
Hope that gives you some ideas.

Re: At Home Exercise Tips Needed
Second on the liking the 'Walk Away the Pounds' tapes. I found mine for cheap at Ross.. have a Ross store?
I would kill to have lost 50 pounds in the 3 months I have been on Atkins! I have lost a bit over 33.
and you weren't even much bigger than I to start!
Good job!
But if you have access to a Y, or other sort of pool, swimming is good, (even non fancy just treading water, it burns as many calories as the breast stroke! )and like above.. just turning on some music and dancing is good too!

Re: At Home Exercise Tips Needed
I suggest buying the adjustable dumbbells and an adjustable bench. When I moved, I located pretty far away from my gym so I stopped going just because it was a pain in the tush. You can add weights just by screwing/unscrewing the ends and adding plates. They're not expensive, and you don't need to have 30 different weights of dumbbells around. Sparkpeople.com has some great demonstrations of exercises, bodybuilding.com has a bunch of routines, so does oxygenmag.com. Some of the sites might seem like they're geared towards "muscleheads" but they're great for everybody.
For cardio, I do running now... but I also have videos for a bunch of things (I like variety) including pilates (yay! core muscles!!), Tae Bo, Bodukon, The Ballet Workout, Biggest Loser Cardio Max, Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred, Bellydancing, Yoga, 10 Minute Solution, HipHop Abs, and the P90X set (recommended after Power 90 or Slim in 6). A lot of the cardio workouts you can find online pretty cheap from Amazon.

Re: At Home Exercise Tips Needed
I have been doing "The Firm" for almost a month now 5-6 times a week and I have lost 12 inches total. You can get the DVDs for cheap on ebay or check out their website www.firmdirect.com. Walk Away the Pounds is a great program for beginners too.

Re: At Home Exercise Tips Needed
If you have a little bit of cash to spare, I recommend buying a couple of workout videos that spark your interest. If you don't, you could always turn on the radio and shake your butt for cardio or go outside for a walk. You can do all kinds of toning exercises without equipment such as push ups, sit ups, curls, lunges and squats. You can used large cans or bottles as weights. If you use your imagination, your choices can be endless!

Re: At Home Exercise Tips Needed
Thank you all for all the great ideas. I am going to be sure and try them all. SOmething is bound to work for me. I think I will Find a couple differnt videos and start with that and some weights around the house then save for some better weights the adjustable kind. I am unable to go walking outside right now I try to do my work out when my son goes to bed, and my husband does not want me walking alone even with my CCW, So Im left to what i thought was not alot of options. But I take that back there are alot of ways to work out from home.Thank you and I appreciate your suggestions.

Re: At Home Exercise Tips Needed
I agree with everyone, I have Taebo, Several FIRM dvds, Pilates, Zumba. What seemed to work for me is joining several of the challenges. I did the squats and lost 3 inches off my thighs in the month (did 50 a day).
